New Owner with a Few General Questions

I have owned a Playstation 4 from day 1 and bought a XBox 1 just a couple of days ago. On the ps4, I always turn it off and cover it with a dust cloth when not using it, unless it is DLing something, in which case I just put it to "sleep" and leave it uncovered.
With the XBox 1 I have noticed that even when I turn the unit off, it still produces heat and the fans runs a little, so....

    1) Does the light on the power brick always stay on even when the console is off? Is this light always the same color? I remember the Xbox 360's power brick displaying a different color light if it was off.

    2) Is it "normal" for the XBox 1 to still produce a little heat when turned off? What is it doing?

    3) Assuming that that the previous is "yes, that is normal" am I safe to assume that means that I should NOT cover it with a dust cloth?

Thanks for all help in advance!

    :)

For 3, covering the cameras with a towel or otherwise blocking them is what other people have done (haven't tried it myself).

The HDMI pass through does NOT work with the xbox one off. Also if you play. 360 games through the pass through there is a delay. For instance I tried MLB 2K13 could not hit anything ball was always past me before I could swing because of delay.

The Xbox One will go into standby mode which is a low power state if you have it set up that way (and it seems you do). While in this state, it can download updates for applications, games, and system software. This is normal for the standby state, which
also allows you to resume the last played game at the same spot where you turned it off (i.e. not at the last save point) with a few obvious exceptions (like online games). While you have it set up this way, you should NOT cover the console.

There is also a full power down state that you can change it to in the settings or hold down the power button/light for 10 seconds. This will shut it down completely and it won't check for updates or patches. THe console will also take longer to start up
    from this state.

Can you point me to this setting? The only power setting I see is a choice between 1) Instant On and 2) Energy Saving. Is this the setting?

    Thanks!

  6. Energy saver powers down the console entirely. I would echo my fellow ambassador not recommended covering xbox one.

But if I use energy saver when I shut it off, then its OK to cover it, right?

I would not recommend covering it at all. All electronics, even in their fully powered-down state, use some minimal amount of energy (for example, your computer, Blu-Ray player, or TV use energy to keep the clock set properly.) Even a small amount of energy
use can generate heat, and though the fan isn't running, covering it with a cloth will decrease the console's ability to "breathe."

And if the ability to cover it is the only reason you're considering putting it in Energy Saver mode, then I have to strongly recommend keeping it in Instant On mode - the benefits of the console being able to update when you're not using it, so you don't
have to waste time downloading and applying updates, is really invaluable. I can count on one hand the number of times I've had an update waiting when I started up (i.e. it hadn't had a chance to update while powered down.) Usually, I start up, log in, and
    jump right into playing.

Also, you can purchase things from the website or SmartGlass App, and if your console is in Instant On mode, it will automatically download to your Xbox (assuming you've set it as your Home Console - let us know if you need instructions on doing that!) That
way, it's there and ready for you to start playing the next time you go to your console! New Owner with a Few General Questions :)

Turn it off at the socket after full power down and you can cover it completely.

  10. Best no matter what console is to leave it uncovered and dust it off from time to time. I use a soft bristled vacuum brush for my equipment.
