New open world games seem so empty

Dead rising 3, NFS: Rivals, tomb raider, thief, All these open worlds just seem to be a mannequin of a game, whats happening to my beloved open world genre and am I the only one who gets caught up with what people are saying about the square enix games
only to be massively let down by the actual gameplay + density of there franchises, im hoping destiny/dragon age will pull change to this **** on the open world genre but if they fail I think my xbone will become a glorified netflix machine

But. since the. announcement i'm. looking. after. it.....

1- because it. seems to. be a. real open world game.(not. a 10 hours story driven game. with. a. large empty map)

How do you play in open world?

So I am wondering how I can join random open world games?

I go to play gta v online and it always puts me in an empty game. I select find new session, again, empty.

I thought it was supposed to put me in games with other people : / nothing online about being alone.

 

Well I was excited to finally get a decent console mmo only to find Zenimax couldn't make their release date for Elder Scrolls Online on consoles. Haven't heard anything more on it either...

 

Dont get me started, I was really up for getting behind the whole console mmo thing I was expecting eso AND minecraft at launch the delays are killing me, and I here eso has lost the Bethesda feel, I may even skip it and wait for fallout just so they stay

Minecraft coming next month....And never was announced as a launch title.

ESO was still in beta last fall,how could you think it will come as a launch title.

For the rest,it's a question of taste,Dead Rising 3,Watchdogs,AC Black Flag (even if i don't like the franchise),Tomb Raider are good,fun games....

This fall with games like Sunset Overdrive,Forza Horizon 2,Far Cry 4,ect....More open world games coming...

 

ESO wasn't a X1 launch title it had a Xbox One release date though and was officially delayed by Zenimax.

^^ to be fair to Tzar, Sir Doubtful said he was expecting ESO at launch.

Im not disappointed by the open world games at all. Watch Dogs was fun, as well as AC IV. I didnt expect much from Dead Rising and Im not really sure what you were expecting from it either in terms of its open world.

 

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign I found Watch Dogs the worst for feeling 'empty'. I just had no incentive to explore. Outside the campaign everything you do becomes quickly repetitive. The hacking gets boring very as you get the same phone conversations,
texts etc. You can only hack a small amount of things that are the same across the map. This game has certainly NOT lived up to the hype that surrounded it. Not even close.

 

As awesome as AC4:BF is for an open-world title, I haven't gone back to play it in a couple of months - I'll have to do that soon before GTA5 and Minecraft get released.

 

Do these worlds feel empty because all the side quests and loot are marked on the map from the get go? It is very simplified for casual gamers.

There is no need to 'explore' because you already know where everything is.

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding! I wonder what it would be like with out the map 'cheat'. I could see it being more interesting, but much more frustrating. People would have to go back to strategy guides/youtube to find everything and get all the achievements.

I agree, it is a huge reason why IMO.

Using TES: Skyrim as a perfect example, for me. Sure, it had waypoints for quests, but if you had to travel to an undiscovered area, you had no idea what... or who... may lie ahead
between you and your marker. Even returning to discovered places, there were often things you found that you had missed before. I think they did an excellent job of balancing between guiding the player along with their quest without laying out everything in
front of us like a road map, with all points of interest already marked for us.

 

Assassins Creed 4 has loads to do, and Dead Rising 3 is good too.
