New Hard Drive For Laptop, Now My Xbox 360 Won't Connect to Xbox Live

I was always able to connect to the Internet on my 360 but since having to replace my hard drive on my laptop a couple of weeks ago, I'm getting nowhere when I try and get online.

I'm using a Netgear VMDG80 and I'm connecting the 360 to my laptop with an Ethernet cable, choosing the wireless option on my settings. I've followed the advice on this forum for allocating a static IP address and it's not worked; I've followed the instructions
for port forwarding for my router and that's not worked either.

I'm at the end of my tether now. I have a Gold account that I can't access and games that I'd like to play online but no amount of advice that I've read seems to be of any help to me.

Is there a helpline that I could try because I think the only way I can get this sorted now is by speaking with someone directly.

How to manage ex-hard drive from laptop/Mobile with Win8?

Hi guys,

need your advice.. I've plugged in my Xbox One the external hard drive to use the Xbox One as the media player. My question is hw can I connect this external hard drive with my laptop, mobile and tablet (everything on Win8) to manage my files etc. on the
hard drive..

For now I have to everytime unplug the hard drive from the Xbox and plug it to my laptop..

Xbox one issues

Hi, I have been having lots a problems with my Xbox one recently. It started with my controller not connecting and then it wouldn't connect to the Internet. After that it won't read my hard drive any more. As of right now my controller won't connect(sometimes
it will) I can't connect to Xbox live and the Xbox won't read my hard drive. Please help I just lost 300$ worth of games. Thanks.

After an hour with a member of the support team last night I'm still no further forward.

yes there is what you need to do is first transfer all date of the External Hard Drive to your laptop for now, and now plug it in to the xbox 360 slim and in memory settings look for USB storage device and click configure now, no matter how big the hard
drive is the xbox 360 will only use 16GB of the external hard drive max so then you can plug it back into the laptop and use the rest of the stogage for your computer.

My laptop running Windows 10 doesnt show the hard drive is connected, but when I first plugged it into the Xbox it was formatted for the Xbox, so would it show up on my PC at all anyway? The hard drive shows that it has power when connected to both the
laptop and the Xbox.

Blitz, I own one of the early Xbox 360 release that did not have the hard drive and to my recollection hard drive was a requirement in order to connect to the internet. I do not have a subscription to XBox Live and I never connected my 360 online. I am
not saying this is a deal breaker, because the XBox One is still a good system and I also have a tablet and laptop for internet browsing and Apple TV for movie streaming. I was just surprised that Microsoft is forcing its customers to buy a subscription to
XBox Live Gold in order to use Internet Explorer and any movie streaming service on the XBox.

I used a laptop/chromebook and it's not showing anything up for where I can install my games onto the hard drive but won't it just re-format the hard drive back onto the xbox?

Because when I plugged it in, it showed up as a new device

What most people don't know is that the hard drive for the 360 is just a standard 2.5" laptop hard drive in a special case. There are millions of 250 and 320GB hard drives out there. Who's to know your nice cheap 360 hard drive from Hong Kong is even new?
It potentially could have sat in a laptop for a few years. It may have been faulty before it got turned into an Xbox 360 hard drive.

Either way, you've been had. If you want no more hard drive issues buy an official hard drive.
