    New Gamertag System using Unicode

I want to change my gamertag using unicode characters for some creativity and variety. My desired tag is too long, but with unicode, I can combine characters to shorten it up and still show what I want it to be. However, I see where it says if a game does not support the new gamertag system, my tag will look pretty ridiculous. My question is, how do I know what games will or will not support my gamertag using unicode? Cuz I don't want to change my gamertag and be stuck with the non-unicode version that looks like gibberish - but, if a majority of the games I play support the new gamertag, then it won't be a big deal for me. Here's a close look at what I mean that I'm trying to do:

    DarthMandalore (too long, 14 characters)

ĐάŗЋMαйδάЮřє (unicode version, 12 characters and looks similar)

DarhMaNoaOrE (what it will look like in non-compatible games/Xbox 360)

That last one looks pretty dumb, right?

I would hate it if that ended up being what showed up most of the time.

    :)

You won't exactly know until you're in game. Per the gamertag FAQ Games that were released before 2020 will not have the update, but games after that aren't necessarily going to have the update either.

Noticing that gamers are starting to use Unicode in their gamer tags making this impossible to report anyone who u might suspect is cheating or hacking. What can a person do?.

    Strange text on screen

It is a Unicode Text Design that you can add by using special Key Combonations on A Keyboard, or copy pasting off of the Internet. It is not a glitch, it is someone who used their PC to add Unicode Text Characters. There is no need to report this.

    xbox Gamertag qustion

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thank you for sharing the issue.

When you changed your original Gamertag (A) to a new one (B), it became available for others to use. However, when you tried to revert back to Gamertag A, it received a numeric suffix. Here’s why:

    1. Gamertag Changes:
      • Xbox updated gamertags to support a 12-character max, Unicode-based name of your choice.
      • If a gamertag is already taken, a suffix with numbers is added to differentiate users with the same gamertag.
      • Existing gamertags remain unchanged with no suffix.
      • When you changed from A to B, A became available for others, and the suffix was added to prevent confusion.
      • Unfortunately, you cannot remove the suffix once it’s assigned1.
    2. Suffix Details:
      • Suffixes are subtle but always shown.
      • They appear everywhere except in friends lists.
      • Friends won’t see suffixes in their lists, but they may appear in games that support modern gamertags.

To summarize, your original Gamertag A now has a suffix due to the change. If you want to keep it without the suffix, consider choosing a unique gamertag.

    Best Regards.

    Revert new gamertag system change

It will be small like you mention HOWEVER you had to read the fine print

NOT all game servers support the new gamertags so the hashtag isnt there on all servers nor are the unicode characters recognized yet

You have to wait till all servers recognize it

For now only the existing servers that recognise it will recognize the hashtag
