how do I get the right version of the game I just bought?

We would have to know what the game is

If it's Jedi Survivor, know that there is no Xbox One family version. It will not work on anything but Xbox Series consoles

there WAS a previous offer for a one month sub as a trial but securities have changed and you will need to add on a payment method to take advantage of the free trial now

As an added suggestion, it may be possible to become a silver member and use free trials that come with games or that a friend doesn't want, but those are usually only for 2 or 3 days. At most doing this would remove the free month option but I'm not sure,
so its up to you if you want to try. After that, your best option is to buy a card at a local store when you can.
