When i was with my ex he used my microsoft account to set up his xbox, a few years later my son got a xbox and we set him up a profile also using my microsoft account to set up the family account.

We have since broken up (2 years) and my ex is still using my microsoft account to play xbox as he has spent hundreds of dollars on games.

Its now becoming an issue as when i want to buy games or videos for my son i have to add my card and delete it after every use so my ex can’t purchase using it, i also don’t want to use his saved details on the account for my own/my sons purchases.

From what i’ve read he can change the email linked to his xbox account but i will no longer be able to use my email to set up a new xbox account. Will my son still be able to use his xbox profile without my ex’s linked? If not, is there a way i can set up my own using my own email address once my ex has removed it? Do i have any other options besides starting again with a new email? I’m hoping for another solution as my microsoft account is linked to so much.

its your account, log in, change the password and reap the rewards, he may have purchased games on it but as it is your account and accounts are non transferable then that solves it, make him start over.

1 Go to http://account.live.com

2 Sign in with his Microsoft Account email address and its password

3 Choose Update Email Address

4 Click on the blue link Or Get A New Email Address instead of typing in the email address

5 Make a new email address at LVIE or at HOTMAIL

Hi there! Microsoft just added that to make it easier for those people that don't remember their email address. If you would like to remove it from being visible, then please follow the following steps below.

On the Dashboard, scroll over to Settings

Select Account

Scroll over two pages to Your Information and then select
Account Security

Scroll down and select Display Microsoft Account and then check the
Hide circle

Sign out then sign back in or restart your console

A gamertag is linked to a Microsoft account. You can create a new account and associate a new gamertag with it, but all accounts must have a unique email address. This email address can be an existing address, but it can't already be associated with another
account.

To recap... one email address = one gamertag. But you don't need to create a new email address.
