New disc drive

    New disc drive


    my Xbox 360 slim currently doesnt work. The problem is that I get an error when my Xbox tries to read the disc and then says 'open tray' when it's closed. Commonly known as the 'open tray error'.

    my question is that if I bought a whole new disc drive, would that fix the problem?

    New disc drive

    My two year old son shoved a puzzle piece into the disc drive. so me being the adventurous type of guy, I took the xbox one apart and tried to get the puzzle piece out of the drive. The puzzle piece is lodged into the drive pretty good. So I assumed I
    could just order a new disc drive from Microsoft support. The chat guy sent me here instead Because apparently we are not supposed to open them up.....

    So is there anyway I can get a new disc drive?

    New disc drive

    No this is not possible and you^ll loose your Warranty.

    And you^ll need to Flash the new Drive and this is very difficult or impossible.

    Request a repair or advanced Exchange on xbox.com or wiht the Phone Support.

    New disc drive

    no each drive is married to each console they are unique to each console and are not swapable by anybody OTHER than MS repair they are the only ones who can do it and make it work.

    Okay I understand that.

    What if, for example, it was just the laser that was broken.

    Would I be able to take the laser out of the new one and put it in the old one?

    Also, if that doesn't wotk, I've seen on a number on YouTube videos, if you change the motherboard from your old disk drive to your new disk drive, would that work?

    Self-repairs are a bad idea and discussions about them aren't allowed on the forums. If your console is defective, please request a repair.
