New controller button input unreliable

As you have only just purchased the controller have you spoken with Amazon about the problem as they are usually very good at supplying replacements.

I have not but I might do that then. I was just wondering if this is normal behaviour of the controller? I wish there was a way to fix it, but i can clearly feel that the button is pressed down and the game doesnt register input unless i press it further
down. And this makes it hard to build any muscle memory

This is a real problem: you can press face buttons (especially the A button, maybe other buttons), get the tactile and audible clicky feedback that it's been pressed, without the controller actually registering an input. I was demonstrating the issue to a Gamestop clerk today, personally ready to go through their entire stock of controllers until I found one that works consistently, but while we were fiddling with it, I decided that it's possible to learn press the button consistently.

To me, it's still unreliable enough that I won't be mapping any important inputs to the A button, but the controller is otherwise the best option available for PC. The Razer Wolverine v2 and v2 Chroma probably have more reliable face buttons, but it lacks the other premium features that I like on the Xbox Elite. Scuf controllers are apparently built from first-party Xbox controllers, so probably have the same face-button problems. So I'm going to try to get used to the finicky A button.

I think this is an important defect, and Microsoft should put some effort into making sure the button doesn't feel like a press if it isn't going to report a press. But the controller also has so many great features, and the A button is consistent if you learn to sort of press it too firmly/"too intentionally".

So maybe this issue is enough to give up on the Elite series 2 controller, or maybe it's a great controller despite the A button problem. \shrug

I've had multi-input issues on my bumpers, B button jams, and the switch caps on the switches for trigger control both fell off and are TINY and basically impossible for me to get back on, so they got lost.

I have been extremely careful with my controller, because I can't actually afford to replace the thing outright, but Best Buy is saying they can't replace it, despite my full coverage warranty, because Microsoft has stopped producing them and they can't
get more. I bought my controller December 2019 and by April or May the switch caps had popped off, by June the bumpers were multi-inputting and B had begun to jam occasionally. USD$200 is a lot of money for a product this unreliable.

This is a hardware design Issue. Meanwhile, we have to live with it by always hard pressing the "A" button to avoid unregistered inputs, or just buy a third party controller.

I want to confirm that this happened to me on a controller that I bought back in April. The "A" button was very unresponsive at certain angles and had to be always hard pressed to avoid any unregistered inputs. Also, after two months of use, my RB button
broke and wouldn't respond, then had to contact support for a replacement. Now that I've got the replacement (new controller not refurbished), I noticed that the "A" button works exactly the same on the new controller as on the old broken controller. I always
tough that the "A" button worked that way because my controller came defective. However, after receiving the new unit, reading your comment, reading other people comments on Reddit, and after finding out that many friends also experience the same problem,
I conclude that this is a hardware design issue that hopefully will be addressed on the Xbox Series X controller.
