New console won’t install game

Hello fellow gamers,

I recently traded my Xbox one in for a used Xbox one S. I have an RDR 2 game that I played on my Xbox one just fine, but when I traded my Xbox one in for the Xbox one S and tried to reinstall the game on my new console, it kept saying “Installation
stopped.”

For starters, after getting the new console, i put the game disc in and it installed up to 24.5%. However, it will not install more than that. It keeps saying “Installation stopped,” or that my game disc might be dirty or damaged. By looking at the disc,
it appears to be in mint condition. However, I have researched why disks may not work and have read a little about the film on the surface of the disc being damaged without being visible.

I have also made plenty of space in my storage for the game to install. However, it keeps stopping at 24.5% and will not install any further. I have performed a hard reset on the Xbox one S, along with even going off-line and trying to install the game
that way. I have been on the phone countless times with Xbox customer service representatives, but they seem to all have the same troubleshooting tips with one being a hard reset option.

I am hoping another gamer out there might have an explanation for this or a different way for me to go about installing the game. I really don’t want to have to rebuy the game, but if I have to I will. This is so frustrating as many can imagine with
a bunch of issues stemming from Microsoft and Xbox in general. If anyone has any helpful tips for me I would really appreciate it!

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on how to hopefully get Red Dead successfully installed on your Xbox. I can totally understand how this could throw anyone off, but hopefully with some troubleshooting we can help resolve the issue. I suggest
trying the steps we have posted on our Troubleshoot game or app installation problems on Xbox
One.

When you get the chance, give those steps a shot and let us know if that helped.

As long as you have cloud saves enabled, clear your local game saves, this should sort the stuck installs

Try using an alternate external HDD, perhaps the one you have in your console is corrupt.

I sure hope you bought it from a retailer that will let you exchange it for another one, like GameStop, etc... Sounds like the BRD is bad in that one if the disc is in mint condition.

Also, hold the disc up to a light to see if any specks of light shine through, if that happens you have a label side scratch, which means a portion of the film the data is recorded on is gone.
