You will be needing to create a new Microsoft account for your son and then set the main account(the one that you’re using) as Home Xbox on the new Xbox series X in that way you can both play together.

Yes, you can play both consoles on the same account....however, I believe you cannot play both at the same time on the same account.

The best thing to do would be to create a child account for your son so they have their own gamertag etc...that way, they earn their own achievements etc and it doesn't create issues years down the line when they want their own account and need to start everything again. A child account you can set parental controls etc so they can be limited in what they can access

Have either of you got the new consoles? Because if you have the new console then he needs to make that specific console his home console. If he has a new one he needs to check he didn't make his new console his home xbox.

He needs to log into your Xbox and make it his home Xbox if it currently isn't

The Home setting only moves if a person sets a new console as their Home. So if the changes have run out, all you can do is wait for the limit to reset before setting a new console as the Home.
