New 360 wont connect to internet

Firstly, yes I am aware that this gt is against the rules. it isnt mine, so report away if you wish.

I got a hard drive-less 4gb model Xbox slim, didn't get a hard drive because I had my old 250gb I wanted to use.

Well I put it in and one of two things happened. First the internet isn't working unless directly connected to the modem which I would do if the modem had more than one port. if directly connected via ethernet to the router It says it can't detect an IP
for wired connections, and for wireless it's telling me to connect a 360 wireless adapter (this is the slim model, meaning it should already have one internally).

Cant Connect To Xbox Live!

My xbox 360 slim connects to the internet and everything but wont connect to live. why is that?

 

My Xbox won't connect to Live, but it connects to the internet.

i use WiFi i can connect to the network and internet but wont connect to xbox live? been doing this for 2 days and now it wont let me download the new update?....

 

Ok, ignoring the gamertag here.

A couple of questions here:

1. Where did you get the 250 GB hard drive? If it was from the old FAT console (mounts on the side) and was modded to fit then we cannot discuss this as modding is strictly forbidden on the forums. However, I would mention that this may be the cause of
your issue.

2. Where did you get the console from? Was it new or used? If used there could have been an issue with the internet adapter which, again, may be the cause of your issue.

 

Its the hard drive from my old slim that got fried from a lightening strike. The new console was a refurb from gamestop, I exchanged it for another today just to be sure and it's giving me the same issues. I have a TP-Link router.

[/quote]So, you can connect your console to Live with the hard drive added to your console and without any connectivity problems, but only when you connect your Xbox directly into your modem, instead of being routed through your NAT/router. Is this correct?

Please post up the make and model of your router and your modem as well.

I can connect directly to the modem via ethernet, but when I try to connect to the router via ethernet it says that there is an IP error. The wireless issue has stopped (it no longer tells me to insert an adapter) but it still won't connect to my router.
it's an issue with the router to the xbox I believe, my X-one and PS3 also give me the same errors about not being able to obtain an IP... and my Xbox connects to other peoples routers fine. Settings are WPA2-PSK (AES) and the model is TL-WR841N.

It has worked fine with this router up until Monday night. My laptop connects fine wirelessly to it so it isn't broken.

If you haven't already, reset your router to factory defaults. Consult the manual for this device, how to restore to factory settings.

From what you've described, it sounds like the router has become faulty.

my laptop works just fine with the router wirelessly, but my phone, playstation 3, xbox 1, and xbox 360 will not obtain an ip address from the router.

 

Have you tried to restore your router back to factory settings? If not, consult the manual for your wireless router, how to reset to factory defaults.

Can you confirm if you can connect your PC wired into the router, instead of wireless.

 

yes, I have restored it to factory default everything almost 5 times now and it still will not allow my devices to obtain an IP address, when I connected with an ethernet cord it works for about 2 seconds then shuts off, but I have no problems with the wireless
with my laptop

 

Do you use PPPoE connectivity mode? Meaning, you have to authenticate your Connection with username and password against your ISP's network.

I do think your router need to be replaced.

 

I'm not sure what PPPoE is but my router does require a password to get into? I've been just fiddling with it and it finally seeming to work? But yeah, I'm definitely going to just buy a new one once I get the funds because I think this one might have been
surged or something in a bad lightning storm I had yesterday, it hasn't been working right since but I thought maybe it was some kind of data error or something since my laptop works just fine

 

Before you decide to replace this unit, try powering your router off for 5 minutes. If that doesn't make any change to this behavior (with a defect DHCP), replace your router with a new one.
