New 3.5mm Xbox One controllers don't seem to output sound unless a mic is detected?

I just received multiple new Xbox One controllers (Halo5, Lunar). These have the cool new built-in 3.5mm jack. I have multiple headsets with 3.5mm input and other devices (old headsets without mics, speakers, even an exercise machine with 3.5mm input). What
    I've noticed is:

    • All my devices work with the OLD Xbox One controllers if used with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter
    • None of my devices work with the NEW Xbox One controllers (with 3.5mm input) UNLESS THEY HAVE A MIC
    • If I plug in a device with mic to the NEW Xbox One controllers then unplug and plug in a device without a mic, it'll apparently fool the Xbox One and it'll continue to work until the Xbox One reboots...
There doesn't appear to be a way to tell the Xbox One OS to output sound through the 3.5mm no matter what -- it appears to only do it under certain circumstances. Anyone else have this experience? I'm trying to see if I can send sound to speakers in another
    room...

    :)

Mic on new controllers with 3.5mm built in Audio port

Interestingly, I can hear audio from the xbox through my earbuds, the controllers just don't seem to be sending the microphone audio to the xbox. I was under the impression that the 3.5mm port on the new controllers had both audio and mic capabilities, am
    I wrong?

I know that the microphone is sending sound to the controller and I know it's getting sent to the correct pins on the 3.5mm port...

Have I been under a rock or does Microsoft no longer include xbox live headset with new consoles?

no they don't come with one, as all new controllers support virtually any 3.5mm headset with mic including phone headphones with mic.

New 3.5mm Xbox One controllers don't seem to output sound unless a mic is detected?

I am having a similar issue with the new Master Chief controller for Xbox One. When I use my ear buds (without mic) I get sound through the controller and everything works fine. When I use my new headphones (over ear Bluetooth/aux capable) with the 3.5mm
cable it detects the headphones but does not play sound. The headphones work on all of my other devices with 3.5mm jack.

Same issue as you guys. Picked up the Master Chief controller today, and they work ok with some Apple earbuds, but don't do any audio when connected to a pair of Bose QuietComfort 15's. I even tried using a standard cable and a cable with a microphone, and
neither produced any sound. From what I've read, QuietComfort's and other OMTP-based headphones (if they even are that) should at least produce sound, but won't work with the microphone (which I don't really care about). It sounds like it might be limited
to newer special edition controllers, since the Halo controllers came out about a month or so ago, and I think the Lunar controller a bit before that.

OMTP is one of the 3.5mm pinout standards. It's described here:

    support.xbox.com/.../connect-compatible-headset

I was only trying to say that my headphones, which I know are functional, don't work with the Master Chief controller with the built-in headphone jack. Regardless of the pinout standard, however, they should work, since OMTP and CTIA have the same pins for
    left and right audio.

  7. Hi fellow gamers. I too just picked a brand new Xbox One controller with 3.5mm jack and have QC15, Bose In-Ear Ultra headphones both designed for the iphone. However QC15, I cannot get Game, Netflix, system sound at all with either Mic cable and no mic
cable. However during my diagnostic testing, I used my Bose In ear ultras and I was able to hear game, netflix, and system sound. Granted the mic didn't work, but I noticed the mic icon was on when I pressed any button on the Mic control.

I did some some research and learned about OMTP and CITA standards where they reverse the ground on the 3.5mm jack. And the solution to our problem lies on buying a Android in mic wire.

My questions is my control faulty because I didn't hear any sound through 2 different cables? How else should I test it?

Has anyone bought the android cable for the QC15 and actually got it to work?
