Never seen so many overhyped games before in my life

GTA V was one of the worst over-hyped piece of crap games of last gen. I'm loving Watch Dogs and has a better more coherent story compared to GTA V.

 

Games that are innovative and take risks don't sell well. We, the consumers, are to blame.

 

I'd like to know what innovative games didn't sell well.

 

I just have to say that I did always think Titanfall was just a bunch of hype, which is why I didn't get it.

Though Ryse, DR3, Forza 5 and Watch Dogs have all been really good and not over hyped at all imo. If anything Watch Dogs probably could have used some more because I wasn't even excited about its release!

 

Games, just like everything else sells through Advertising because people are generally impulse shoppers. For example. You're watching Sat Morning cartoons, and watch a commercial. "My bologna has a first name... "

Later, you go shopping with mom, and guess what you see on the Store shelve. Oscar Mayor.. Got to have it!

Games sell like that as well. Such as Brute Force for the Original Xbox. But the really good games need no advertising. Halo Combat Evolved for example.

Point is.. Don't $buy$ into the Hype. "Come on, Come on... " Do your RESEARCH before "jumping in" TO a game, and or system which was rushed to launch, sold to impulse buyers, and just weeks/months later. Can't even be sold used for even 1/2 it's original
cost.

Which by the way. Makes fanboy's jump ship faster than land crabs on Kilauea.

LOL. Official XBM, as well as xbox fanboy's on these forums at that time. Hyped Brute Force as being. "The next Halo."

Halo, in all it's various forms is still around. What happened to Brute Force?

It was hogging up space in the bargain bins of GS, as well as KB Toys before they went under. So an "excellent game" it was not.

 

Hype doesn't always save you.

Look at "Street Fighter IV".

People were gobbling about this game for months and in less than a week people had dropped it like a stone.

"Alone In The Dark" and "Deus Ex" are a couple of other big hype offerings that seemed to fall flat as far as hype was concerned.

 

Got to agree with Electro, Brute Force was beyond poor. Right up there with Blinx, garbage.

 

I honestly wouldnt say Watch_Dogs is even comparable to GTA 5, they are two completely different types of games. Both have open worlds and cars but Watch_Dogs is more of a stealth based futuristic version of Assassin's Creed I
thought.

Grand Theft Auto is more guns blazing, detailed cars and driving type of game.

 

Hype helps to sell the games, and I guess Microsoft will help encourage that hype to help sell more of their systems. It's the same as when the 360 launched, ported versions of Fifa etc that didn;t show any real improvement but that is understandable in
the early life cycle of a new console.

I remember getting all excited for Tiger Woods 06 on the 360, and it literally had 6 courses and if I remember correctly not even a single player career mode!

 

Well, see the problem is, every time you see a over-hyped game, that adds "1" to your counter. So, after you see the next over-hyped game, you can reiterate the exact same phrase, "I've never seen so many overhyped games before in my life!" And then, after
the next over-hyped game comes out after that, you can repeat the same phrase... over and over and over for the rest of your life.

 

There is a similar trend in the movie industry. Endless sequels and remakes. They're running out of entertainment ideas to keep our minds numb. Those who are disappointed took the red pill.

 

I actually liked Titanfall, it opened up movement to the shooter genre again. The amount of content it provided though made me stop playing actively after 2 weeks. Expedition came out and kept me entertained for 6 hours but I feel no need to go through past
my gen5.

I agree that a lot of games that came out so far in 2014 were overhyped. Hell, even Mario Kart was "overhyped" on Nintendo's side. Friend who has a WiiU is like 'meh, yeah it's nice."
