Never buying another Xbox

In the UK starting bids on eBay are about £120 so if the USA is similar the advice of an console for £75 is highly unlikely. I've been offered £70 for my broken one.

While I'm sure you *could* find an X1 at a pawn shop or yard sale for that price, I'm sure at some point you could also find an original Van Gough at one too. So basically your solution is to waste a bunch of time looking for a deal until you get lucky.

 

Shop around OP, if I can find these deals, then so can you. Just remember, ebay and others go by trends to price things. But get out of the house and away from the net, and you'll find deals that the net, or even gamestop could never match.

 

Yeah either way. It's Microsoft'Security update that bricked my console. Microsoft should be willing to repair or replace it. From my end Microsoft want me to pay so they can fish their update.....

 

MS would never admit that their update bricked your console, yet it has happened before. One comes to mind where one console was even falsely banned, and someone here said it was due to. 'a corrupted update.'

Umm. if you count another who joined the 'preview program' then dl their update which in turn bricked their console. Then that would be two.

 

Electro eBay is a pretty good benchmark of what people are prepared to pay for a SH unit, there's no,shortage so market forces dictate the bidding, and traders aim for lower than high street retail usually.

 

Electro - There's quite a bit that happens during an update. Just because a console fails in the middle of one does not mean that it was the update that caused the failure, it just happened to be the last straw. People saying it's the update's fault is about
equivalent to blaming The Walking Dead for breaking your TV because that happens to be what was playing when the TV stopped working. It worked fine before hand though, so clearly it was The Walking Dead that broke the TV, right?

 

Lol, ebay, as well as every other site, including GS, (Middle man) looks to make money off of these 2nd hand units. So it's a good bet that if YOU get to these units before the middleman gets his greedy hands on the units, that you could land some great
deals.

To call Ebay, or any middleman a. 'pretty good benchmark' is just kwazyness!

I run into a few Ebay sellers from time to time who rent sales tables on the weekend, and who swear that they can't sell items any cheaper than they have said item(s) listed on ebay, yet when you tell them. "So you're saying that due to having this item
listed on ebay, that you refuse to make a dollar today in the hopes that tommorow, or next year. That you may potientually make 2 dollars?"

They often come off with something smartelecky to say in reply, and when they do. I often remind them of their rent and ask. Did you make that money, gas, food etc back yet? Walk away and by the time I cruse by them in my wheelchair. Often they will call
me over and are ready to sell.

Picked up a lot of good deals by just reminding them of their expenses in trying to make a sell.

 

Of course they want to make money. eBay charges roughly 10% of the final value in exchange for displaying your item on one of the most popular websites ever created. Amazon has a very similar deal. Go to a local auction house and you're looking at 25-33%
easy, yet you call eBay greedy?

People aren't exactly saving much by sticking to local sales, not to mention the lack of exposure. Your logic is extremely flawed at best, to put it nicely.

As a 'buyer' you are under obligation to follow through with your bid, but as happened with me when I bid $1.00 and won an item at auction, that even though i was the only bidder, that the seller can refuse to sell and ebay (You contend makes 10 cents on
the dollar) WILL back them in that decision. But when the shoe is on the other foot. 'By bidding, you agreed to buy at that price."

Thus not having double standard Saints, they are not!

Electro - Your reply has nothing to do with the conversation at hand, but... What do you expect eBay to do, go to the seller's house and take the item? Leave the seller bad feedback and move on, that's what the system is there for. You do also receive strikes
against you for that type of stuff as a seller, so anyone who forms a habit of that type of behavior will first lose the ability to get discounts on final value fees, and eventually their account will be suspended or banned.

You're right though, actually looking up their policies and the way things work is not nearly as interesting as pretending they're some big bad faceless entity who's only out to screw over the world so they can make a buck. Break out the pitch forks and
tin foil!

Just because you didn't understand their policies doesn't mean it's a double standard... You don't follow through with a sale and get reported, you get a strike. You don't pay and get reported, you get a strike. It's the same on both sides and really not
that hard of a concept to understand.

 

Well, walking dead isint altering the software on my TV either. Many thing do occur during updates. Just ask Apple....
