  1. Networking and lag issues

*This problem has been going on for about a year now*

We moved in town to a new home. Same ISP, same hardware as our previous home.

My 360S now has a hard time connecting to Live- it usually won't connect the first, second or even third try. Sometimes reconfiguring the network settings help. I've been trying to play co-op with my brother recently, and the lag is terrible.

I tried every trick I could find to sort out the issues with my Apple Airport Extreme, but didn't seem to be having any luck. I finally broke down and purchased a Netgear R7000 router today and I'm still having lag issues.

I am at an absolute loss for what could be causing the problem. (I think I eliminated the router as a problem, since it is recurring on two separate pieces of hardware, and distance from the router should not be a problem because the base station
is directly above the console and separated by maybe 8 feet)

Is it possible the console is the culprit here?

    Any ideas?

    :)

Could you detail out what "all the necessary steps" are, so we don't post up solutions that may only echo back.

Post up the make and model of your modem, along with the make and model of your router.

Is the firmware version of your router up-to-date?

Do you connect wired or wireless with your console? If wireless, do you only have your wireless router between it, and your console, or do you use an extender for coverage?

Do you connect multiple Xbox consoles to the very same router Internet connection?

Could you log in to the UI of your router and (in most conditions) have a look under WAN settings, and let us know if the IP listed as the WAN/Internet address is a public, or private, IP address. If you don't know the difference between public and private
    addresses, then wiki away.

You may also want to verify that your console is running in Energy-saving power mode. If not, switch from Instant-On to Energy-saving.

May I ask, have you tried to connect your console with a wired solution, or if you have bypassed your router, to make a direct Connection to the network wall socket? I ask this because what you are detailing out, as troubleshootings steps (rules for forwarding
Xbox traffic), has nothing to do with latency.

Can you visit Netgear website and make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

Do you connect wireless headset to your Xbox? For example, Turtle Beach.

  7. -It is not possible to connect my Xbox to the wall outlet. The only active outlet is on another floor, under a bed.

    - The current router is literally out-of-the-box new and up-to-date. The previous router was up-to-date as well.

I do not have a wireless headset.

Line-of-sight from the console to the router is about 45 feet. so I don't think it's a distance issue.
