Network Outage

If I've never used the Microsoft Network for ANY purpose (I plsy strictly solo), why am I subject to the disruption currently going on?

Are there settings to disconnect me from the network?

The only outages today have been Fox Network and the download of the Crimson Map Pack for Halo 4, there's no systemic outage.

 

Xbox Live Status

A "hacker" group has taken responsibility for the outage.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues.

What game are you trying to play?

Although you are playing solo, some games still require connection to xbox live. Other features on the xbox also require connection to xbox live.

 

Diablo 3 ROS is the game I'm currently playing.

It would seem to me if one is only playing a licensed game, and has no use for any network resources, the service interruption experienced yesterday could be avoided.

Am I missing something, or is that Microsoft linkage too formidable?

Physical disk.

According to Amazon techs, this game has no access codes, so I don't really understand the need for linkage to MSFT.

 

It should work fine, and then it would just update whatever it needs to when your connection to xbox live is restored.

So it wouldn't allow you to launch the game at all?

 

Because of the network disruption yesterday, nothing worked.

D3 connects to Xbox Live for multiplayer/coop/friends lists - even if you don't want to play that way it connects in case you do. Save games are also backed up the the cloud as well as saving locally.

The previous versions of Diablo 3 on other platforms required your to always be online. Blizzard removed that from the Xbox version and you can play offline. If you have trouble I suggest having a look at

this which describes offline mode for Xbox.

Please note its worth checking other games in the future before purchase as many single player games now require some level of internet connectivity in order to work. This is a developer/publisher choice and nothing to do with Xbox.
