    Network Issues

    Hi

I've recently moved house. In my old house, we had standard broadband, with decent speeds. It was good enough for a few devices to be using the internet at the same time. Multi-player gaming was easy and fast, no problems.

In my new house, were using satellite internet. The download and upload speeds are actually very good.

I'm facing a few issues. One being my NAT type, its been set to STRICT ever since I moved. I've exhausted every single option Microsoft Xbox support have given me. Nothing has worked. So I contacted my ISP. I was advised to ask them to open ports on my router
(i have no idea what this means) they say my current internet package doesn't allow this, but an upgraded package for £10 a month more, would fix this. The guy on the phone then went on to say that even if I did this, it wouldn't fix my problem. He said the
issue was with my PING or LATENCY speeds (i don't really know what this means either). I have a small grasp of the meaning of PING.

I said I didn't really want to get bogged down into the technical details, I literally just wanted to do some Multi-player gaming and for my Xbox to be fixed Network Issues :(

Has my Xbox been rendered useless because I've moved house? Surely there is a solution to this problem. I don't play campaign missions on games, nor do I play offline, I buy Xbox games solely for their Multi-player modes, (except for maybe GTA) Given that
I cant game like I used to, and my Xbox has been sitting there for weeks, not in use, whilst I look for a solution, I'm desperate to resolve this.

Would anyone be willing to suggest absolutely anything I can do to fix my ping and latency speeds? I'm pretty sure my NAT type being strict isn't helping either.

I'l keep looking for a solution and fighting on Network Issues :) because I find it hard to believe I will have to sell my Xbox because my ping speeds will always be the same. The guy on the phone really didn't offer me much help. He said I will always be in the same situation
and there's absolutely nothing they can do.

I've checked up on if I can get fibre optic broadband, but I think it will be at least 2-5 years before I can get this. I'm not even that rural either, I have two pubs and around 8 other houses down my road. Its not like I live away from civilisation.

Any help would be much appreciated Network Issues :)

    Thanks

    :)

I dont know an exact fix for the cant join party issue, but one thing Ive learned to do is create a party and set the invites to public so that way my friends can just hop in without an invite.

I believe your post is ok here, but there is a forums section for connection issues such as this one for instance.

You can navigate to this forum here >
    forums.xbox.com/.../9.aspx

connection questions are more likely to be answered in a faster timely manner at this section of the forums.

    Hi,

I'm not an expert on Satellite Broadband, but I would expect online services such as online multiplayer to be virtually impossible, as stated because of the high latency and ping times. This is due to the distances involved transmitting to a satellite in
space and then back down again.

Having a quick look at google, the average ping times for satellite is about 600ms. Once a gamer starts getting ping times of about 100ms, they will experience problems with stutter and rubberbanding.

Unfortunately I don't see how this will ever improve with satellite broadband, as the transmission times are limited simply by the laws of physics.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your quick response.

    1. I think you are right, it probably is not a network issue. I do not receive any error message when checking my network connection; the network, internet, and xbox live are all connected just fine.

    2. I received an error message, “80072ee2” that led me to this forum on xbox support,

    support.xbox.com/.../software-update-errors
It told me that my problem was that the update could not be downloaded from xbox live. I checked when the download was issues, and it was right around the same time that my xbox started lagging out (August 26,
    2013).

    3. Ah ah! Now that is interesting. I disconnected the hard drive and turned it on. Before it booted up, I was prompted to get a system update. However, I need 190 mb of free space… so, I plugged the hard drive back on. But then it does not update
and is still slow. Do I need a new hard drive? and will that erase my xboxlive account?

Thank you again for your help,

Hey there! OK a few things.

    1. That does indeed sound really frustrating, but I bet there are things we can do to help! From what you're describing, it doesn't sound like it's a network issue (since menus and such run slowly), but just in case, the first thing I'm going to link you is
the Troubleshoot Xbox Live connectivity problems.

    2. Now, what's leading you to believe you need to reinstall the update? Is the console saying something about that specifically?

    3. Let's see if it's something hardware related. Can you please try removing all accessories (including the hard drive if you have one) and connecting to Live again?
