Network Issues in Instant On mode

    Hello Everyone,

I've searched through but haven't been able to find anything matching my fault. I have just picked up an Xbox One yesterday so you will have to excuse my ignorance if I've missed a basic step.

I have my console set to Instant On mode and connected to my Sky Fibre router via Ethernet. My NAT shows as open and I get good results from the network diagnostics.

However in Instant On mode when I put it into standby the network connection seemingly drops which is making downloads tedious as I can guarantee them to work. When I boot the console up it shows as network difficulties and the network tests fail meaning
I have to hard restart the console using the power button.

I have tried power cycling the console and router separately and at the same time to no effect. The connection doesn't drop at any point once I've established the connection and the console is on, only when it's in Instant On standby.

I know UPnP is enabled on the router and the cable is definitely working without issue for other devices. I have a PS4 which is always in Rest mode connected via cable and I have never had an issue with it. I also tried switching ports on the router to be
safe but again it had no effect.

I've just disconnected the cable and set up Wi-Fi to test it just in case it resolvea but I won't know until tomorrow if it has sorted it!

    :)

If you have your Xbox One on instant on mode turn it to energy saving mode instead. Instant on causes alot of problems with networks.

NP, if your Xbox is on Instant On put it to Energy Saving mode to cut back on network issues like this. The extra 10 or so seconds iit takes to turn on is worth it.

It appears to have remained connected via the Wi-Fi however nothing has downloaded in that time so it evidently hasn't resolved the issue.

    Greetings Astrates!

Let me start by saying that the UPnP protocol suite works, or are implemented differently, depending on the make and model of a router/NAT.

This has been an onging issue since the console's launch, and are affecting certain routers/NAT (Make & model). Most routers removes a port mapping when asked, or with the unused rule cleaning feature, which means that a certain binding (IP, Port) can only
be held for the duration of time set by UPnP (IGD). The problem with Instant-On mode enabled seems to be that the Xbox One don't renegotiates a new binding.

However, one of the following steps up front should resolve this.

    - Disable Instant-On mode and use Energy saving Power mode.

    - Go to Xbox One network settings and force a new binding (UPnP) by doing a
    Test multiplayer Connection
, and then on your controller, press the following combination:
LT/RT/LB/RB This will bring up the detailed statistics test.

    - If you only have one Xbox console on your network, try to manually forwarding network ports used by Xbox Live (Port Forwarding). If you do this, you will need to have UPnP disabled on your router, as UPnP tend to overwrite static NAT.

Port Forwarding requires of a client to have static IP settings. Or if the router support DHCP reservation/IP reservation, it can be used as an alternative to classic static settings on a machine on your network.

If you choose to use static IP settings on client side, remember to alter the DHCP's end address in its pool of addresses, or it can cause IP conflicts between two machines on your network.

Let us know how that goes.

I only have one Xbox One console on the network so that can't be the issue.

I believe poo Instant On would resolve the problem at start up but my issue is that in Instant On standby the connection drops making the mode virtually useless. So it would fix it but at the expense of using my console as intended so it's not a fix to the
    issue in hand.

As for the details and statistics page, this again doesn't really resolve the issue as I have to turn on to utilise it meaning it will have no effect on performance in standby mode.

I will attempt setting a static IP and DMZ this evening.

Which means that there are no packets that use the initial binding, or map entries, created by an application on your Xbox One. The binding is maintained by a UPnP idle timer, and if no one tries to communicate, for the duration of the dynamically created
map entry (binding), the binding will expire.

With the DMZ, as with manually port forwarding, UPnP has to be disabled during this operation.

I did not mentioned anything in regard to having more than one Xbox console on your network, part from, or if, you choose to use static NAT for your Xbox One, as you can only favorize one Xbox console with static NAT, due to port competition. Network Issues in Instant On mode :)

    Keep us posted!

Sorry I misread the part about one console, also apologies for the terrible mistypes, using a phone is not ideal!

I'll let you know how it goes, thank you for the help.

Seems like switching to Wi-Fi only has worked. I can't really say why but it has.

Even if your Ethernet cable seems to work with your PC, try connect your console with a different cable, and or LAN port on your gateway.

If wireless is a suitable solution for you, I'll say, go for it.

    Happy gaming and play safe.
