Netflix - Super HD and 2nd Screen

Almost every device that streams Netflix has support for Super HD, except Xbox 360 and Xbox One. PS4 has both Super HD and 2nd Screen support. What's the deal here...

Wha? .....no Super HD mode? Seriously?

No content on Netflix shows up as Super HD (and my ISP, Virgin, supports Netflix's Content Servers for Super HD).

Not impressed.

Yes, xbox one supports super HD Netflix streams.

However, the xbox one app lists them as merely HD for some reason, but i tested a video on Netflix that displayed the bitrate and resolution of the stream and it matched up with the standards that Netflix deem to be Super HD.

I'm curious,however. You say you want to upgrade to super hd, but i pay the standard monthly rate (in the u.k) for Netflix and get Super HD on xbox one.

Are you saying you have to pay extra for super hd? Or have i misunderstood?

 

i wasn't aware of this, hopefully MS can work with netflix, as there is really no reason the 360 and Xbox one can't support it. This would be good for the 360, but on the xbox one with the current streaming video bug causing dropframes/hiccup/jutter etc
across all apps should be fixed as well.

 

X1 does stream Super HD. You can see the stream you are receiving by watching Example Short 23.976. I've only been able to achieve super HD during non peak hours, specifically early morning.

 

How are you determining it's Super HD for you? Even if you are getting a higher bitrate than normal, I'm not sure that would indicate Super HD. And if it does support Super HD, why is it not listed on Netflix's official page? It's baffling to me since Xbox
and Netflix always had a pretty good relation, and Xbox 360 was one of the devices that first gave Netflix a foothold in the living room. They should be BFFs.

 

If you watch that video and you see the resolution and bit rate in the upper left hand corner.

If you see 1920x1080 @ 5800kbps you are getting Super HD.

As to why it's not on the Netflix list? probably because they certify the devices and haven't certified the X1 yet.

 

PS3 has it.... X360 has been around just as long but still doesn't have it. Something tells me X1 wont' get it anytime soon. Maybe there is a technical reason... I am sick of the streaming issues on the X1....so close to returning this thing...

 

That is the issue, any other device that you try Netflix Super HD, it is always Super HD, it does not matter if peak hours or not, Apple TV will stream Super HD 100% of the time, Smart TV will do the same, all my other devices are great, except the one that
suppose to take over the living room, so far Xbox one video stream is a failure.
