Netflix Requires Xbox Live Account

Normally, this isn't a big deal, but last night I was unable to log into Xbox live since it was down.. As a result I was also unable to connect to Netflix or play my local media with Plex.

Like I said, normally this isn't a problem, but I'm wondering what the point is in requiring a xbox live account since Gold isn't required any more. Just requiring you be logged into your live account seems pointless. If nothing else couldn't it just confirm
I have a Xbox live profile saved on my Xbox and just play even if I'm not logged in?

Netflix and Amazon Prime, one account 2 xbox. Help

Just logged out of my live and retried Netflix says I need to log into Xbox live ? Do you all have home option selected on one Xbox or something

I have a password logging on my live account but that should not matter

And yes Netflix asks to sign into live when I try to use it. I have tried to remove Netflix signed out of live and tried to reinstall it but again asks to sing into live

Will I be able to sign into my 360 and Xbox One simultaneously?

I want to put my 360 in the bedroom and have my xbox one in the family room. Can someone watch netflix in the bedroom on my live account/ gamer tag while I play a game/watch Netflix in the family room on my xbox one? It seems a bit ridiculous to require
another subscription to xbox live just to be able to watch Netflix in the bedroom.

Clearly Microsoft listens to its' users because I see a LOT of replies to your post. Har har.

Along the same lines, my family was watching Netflix using my Live profile at home, and got signed out simply because I was at a friends house playing a game. It booted them completely out of Netflix and because they don't have my Netflix information on
the other Live accounts, they could not keep watching.

Why can you not watch Netflix without being signed into Xbox Live?

No Xbox Live is not required for Hulu or Netflix.

It was no problem at all.

Hi Veggie,

Netflix really shouldnt be affected by an Xbox ban, despite require Xbox Live to function, if the rest of your account functions are fine, then your account hasnt been closed down.

So definitely seems strange, did you get an error? What happens when you start Netflix?

Requiring an Xbox Live account for something that has NOTHING to do with Xbox Live is completely silly. My family was watching Netflix through my Xbox Live account, setup that way simply because I'm the one with the Netflix account, so it made sense to sign
in under my Xbox Live Account.

I'm at a friends house and we fired up the old Halo 3 to have some Zombie fun, only to have my family ask why their Netflix stopped working. I understand you need Xbox Live to play games, chat, and download apps, but it's simply unacceptable to get booted
off Netflix because you sign in from another console.

I WILL NOT be renewing my Xbox Live Gold when it runs out, and will continue to enjoy my Enterprise Windows 7/8.1/10 on all our PC's.
