Netflix, Gold Membership, and Xbox Live Ports

Experienced xbox gamers will know that, duh, you have to have your xbox on a UPnP router or port forward certain ports to your xbox ... but many of the parents who pay for all this and just want to watch netflix will be amazed to learn the reason why nexflix
keeps crapping out for them.

It seems like Xbox likes to "phone home" though port UDP 3074 to verify Xbox Live Gold membership while I'm watching TV shows and movies using the Netflix app. This port was not open on my firewall -- so the Xbox would boot me out of Xbox live (and Netflix)
to suggest that I upgrade to Xbox live Gold (which I already have). Adding insult to Xbox, my chats with 3 separate support people led me to first delete and re-download my profile, (did nothing to resolve issue) delete and re-download the nextflix app (did
nothing to resolve the issue) -- finally one person suggested that I run network tests. This revealed that I had "NAT Moderate" settings -- and the test told me to ... go to a dead link (surprise). After some effort, I learned that my firewall router does
not run UPnP and to get this to work I need to create some port forward rules.

Basically, I just want to complain that in addition to being expensive and annoying Xbox Live Gold is poorly implemented and the "chat bots" who staff the support lines really should up their game to understand that when xbox live requests a known paid member
to upgrade it's because the customer's router either has UPnP turned off or they have strict firewall beyond the usual home router.

I want to join the [Mod Removed]. I've tried for MONTHS to try and fix my Netflix issue, with multiple calls to XBox, my ISP and even Netflix (which went nowhere). I'm trying the port forwarding with no effect right now. My router supports
UPnP but I can't get UDP 3074 to open.
