    .NET Desktop Runtime Setup Failed

I am attempting to install .NET Desktop Runtime because the game Baldurs Gate 3 requires it. I keep getting the following log file with the setup failed that cites an issue with the Temp folder. All drives on my PC have full control and plenty of space.

It looks like you're encountering an error while trying to install the Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime version 6.0.21 (x64) on your system. The error code 0x80070660 indicates that there was a problem with installing one of the MSI packages within the bundle.

The relevant error messages in the log are as follows:

This error typically occurs when there is a problem with Windows Installer, such as a conflict with another installation, corruption in the Windows Installer database, or insufficient permissions. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Reboot: Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve installation issues. Before attempting any other steps, try restarting your computer and then re-running the installation.
    2. Run as Administrator: Right-click on the installation executable (.exe file) and select "Run as administrator." This ensures that the installation process has the necessary permissions to make changes to your system.
    3. Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Outdated system components can sometimes cause installation issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
    4. Check for Conflicting Software: Other software or security tools running on your system might interfere with the installation. Temporarily disable or uninstall any antivirus or security software, and try the installation again.
    5. Clean Windows Installer Cache: Sometimes, the Windows Installer cache can become corrupted. You can try cleaning it by following these steps:
      • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
      • Type msiexec /unregister and press Enter.
      • Type msiexec /regserver and press Enter.
      • Delete the contents of the %WINDIR%\Installer folder (make sure to back up important files before doing this).
    6. Check for Disk Space: Ensure that you have sufficient free disk space on the drive where you're trying to install the software.
    7. Use Microsoft Troubleshooter: Microsoft provides a Windows Installer Troubleshooter tool that can automatically detect and fix common issues related to Windows Installer. You can download and run this tool from the official Microsoft website.
    8. Install Individually: If possible, try installing the individual MSI packages separately rather than using the bundled installer. This might help identify which specific component is causing the issue.
    9. Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, consider reaching out to Microsoft support or the support channels for the software you're trying to install. They might have specific guidance or solutions for your situation.
Remember to create a backup of your important files and data before making significant changes to your system.

I did as you suggested and I'm still having the same issue. No matter which version of the .net I try to install it keeps saying "setup failure" I've downloaded individually, updated my programs and my current .net frameworks...

I looked it over, and noticed one option I hadn't tried yet, moving it to another drive. This got me further, the game windows is now open longer.

However, during the move, the following error messages appeared in the event viewer:
