    Neither the Elite Controller nor the normal one work while plugged in via USB on Windows 10


    When plugged in, the drivers don't install properly and there is no way to use the Controller on my PC.

    I even tried some drivers out of the Internet but there is no progress.

    I use Windows 10 Educcation version 1703 and the Xbox One Elite Controller and the one I've got with my Xbox One S.

    I purchased an Xbox One Elite Controller and Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 and can't get them to stay connected. They will sync up fine but will not stay connected for more than 5-7 seconds at a time. The light on the wireless adapter will turn
    off after being connected for a short time, and then a few seconds later will pair up again. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and my Xbox One controller works fine when plugged in via USB. Please help as this is incredibly frustrating. PC is running Windows
    10, of course.

    Yes, but also no.

    Every Xbox One controller is wireless. However, when you plug it in via USB it becomes wired and sends the signal via wire instead of wireless (while also charging batteries, if you are using the charge-pack - or in the case of your question, it's using the power via cable instead of the batteries).

    This is in contrast to how Xbox 360 controllers work. X360 has both wireless and wired. An X360 wireless controller when plugged in via USB is still sending the signal wireless, but is getting power via the USB. This is why you can't plug an Xbox 360 wireless controller via USB into your computer and have it work, because the controller is still sending a wireless signal.

    This makes the Xbox One controllers great for both Xbox One and PC gaming, because you don't need to buy a 'wired' controller for it to work on the PC, you can just plug it in via USB and it'll send the signal via USB instead. I'm really glad Microsoft did this.

    You should only need to plug in the xbox controller via usb cable to have it work on windows 10. There are no additional drives required.

    sorry to hear. Maybe you can give us more Information?! The question that arises: "Is it up to the controller or the console?"

    If you plug the controller via USB at your XBOX One "Do the controller work"? If Yes, can you update him?

    If not, "Do you have a Windows 10 Computer, so you can try to connect him there (also via USB)"? If the controller also doesn't work there, it is maybe defective.

    A normal wired 360 controller will plug in and play on your PC without issue. Windows will pick it up instantly.

    A wireless 360 controller requires the Microsoft Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. It plugs in via USB.

    I have the same problem. Two controllers. One works fine. The other controller only responds to the power button when wireless. It works fine on USB.

    I might have had a stereo adapter (without headset) plugged into one while updating. I wasn't really paying attention because both worked while plugged in via usb.

    Summary: I fixed it by plugging USB cable into a controller and pc, win 10 recognized it, system restart was required and after that controller was working wirelessly also.

    Longer description: I installed fresh windows 10, downloaded and installed all win updates, then I tried all these steps and at the end controller started working.

    1) plugged wireless adapter into USB windows 10 recognized it but Xbox one controller won't connect (keep on blinking)

    2) plugged wireless adapter into another USB port but Xbox one controller won't connect (keep on blinking)

    3) plugged wireless adapter into another USB port started task manager removed Xbox one adapter, windows found it again but still noting (gamepad keep on blinking)

    4) plugged wireless adapter into another USB port (front) started task manager removed Xbox one adapter and Xbox drivers, windows found it again installed it but still noting (gamepad keep on blinking)

    5) FINALLY, I fixed it by plugging USB cable into a controller and pc, win 10 recognized it, system restart was required and after that controller was working wirelessly also.
