    Need to change the email on my son's XBox Account


    Hi Community,

    I am recently divorced and my son's XBox Account is attached to my ex-husbands email account.

    In late 2020, I bought my son a new XBox. When we tried to set up the new XBox, the codes went to my ex-husbands email and he would not pass them on.

    Its been over a year without my son using his new XBox as he doesnt want to lose his history and have to 'start all over'. However, his old XBox is not holding up so well these days.

    I am keen to change the email so my son can use his new (or now not so new) XBox. Can anyone help advise how we can change the email to one we can access?

    Hi, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

    The only way to change account credentials is by having access to the account. We will be needing his help to do so.

    My son has his own account, which is connected to my email...and my other email is strictly work
    It sounds as tho the account, son's (gamertag) setup on the XBox is an adult account using your email assigned to your Microsoft account.

    What needs to happen is an adult xbox account (think gamertag) needs to be setup with your adult email used for Microsoft account and then use the family setup and make your childs gamertag on the XBox a child account not an adult account.

    OK, we only have the one Xbox, and it is 'my' come console, so that's not going to make a difference? I think what I need to know is if I for example change the email address for my Xbox account to my sons email address, does that (a) make it 'his' Xbox account and (b) affect my other Microsoft services, eg 365 etc?
