Need to buy game pass to play rdr2 online when I didn’t before

I recently got an Xbox series X, and I finished downloading RDR2. When I tried to play online mode, it said that I needed to buy a game pass. I never had to buy a game pass to play RDR2 online on my Xbox one, so why do I need to purchase one to play on my Xbox series X? I have the game on physically on discs, if that might help with the answer. I also have GTA5 online, and it’s in the Que to be downloaded, will I have the same issue? Thanks in advance.

Online has always required a suspension. If you didn't purchase it youself, then someone else had your old console set as their Home and you were sharing their subscription.

The owner of the subscription would have to do that or you would need your own subscription.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I tried all the steps on your list twice over without any luck. Actually worked on this issue until 3am ( Thailand time ).

In the end, the whole problem was, that I downloaded the “free” RDR2 online through Game Pass Ultimate. Nobody ( including forums ), had mentioned that in order to play RDR2 story mode, you would need the RDR2 “online” DLC.. Unknowing to me, Game Pass erased this free DLC this month. I did buy the story mode only, but without the DLC.....this game was not downloadable anymore.

I took the chance of purchasing the RDR2 “online” DLC to see if this would resolve the missing Game.

Hi,

When a game is on Game Pass it's yours to play while available. Once it's removed from Game Pass you will have to buy it to continue playing it.

RDR2 was removed in September.
