Need to be signed in to play downloaded games?

So I got A.C Unity included with my Xbox One. I downloaded it and have played it. Today(Christmas Day) however there seems to be issues with XBLive which I get. When I tried to play Unity it kept asking me to sign in but since the network is down it won't
do so. So my question is: I have to be logged in in order to play all my downloaded titles? I'm new to xbox so I'm not sure. The "other" system does not require this so if xbox does i'll be very disappointed.

Why do I have to be online to play arcade games?

As long as the full version of the game is downloaded to the right account, you should be able to play the full game that you bought. You will need to be signed into some account in order to play the full version.

 

Not just downloaded titles... I have a physical copy of the disk but you still have to be logged in to xbl to play. Sounds like the PS4 and XBL networks got hacked... so we can't play the games we've payed good hard money for. They have their reasons (software
piracy, being among them) for insisting that we be online to play OUR games, but it seem strange that the honest people are largely the ones paying the price here. It would be nice to see MS credit all of us with the amount of time we lost because of THEIR
security breach. It would also be nice to see the group that did this caught and sued for the projected cost of XBL and PSN membership time wasted. Each person a day or two days or a week, whatever it comes to, added up and given a value then have these
twits work it off for the rest of their lives, living in poverty, thinking about how worth while it all was.

 

This is a peculiarity of Ubisoft-made titles after a certain period of time - they require you to be logged onto Uplay (and, by association, XBL) to play them, even if you're playing offline.

 

I think you're being slightly over-dramatic Ninja. I understand the frustration for people, especially those got a Xbox One for Christmas to not be able to play it online, but Live was down for a day. If they compensated people, you'd get a whopping 16
pennies back for that day.

Im still not sure what the answer is? I have to be online to play downloaded games? If so I will never buy digital frim Microsoft.

 

^^ You don't. Provided you are playing on the console/Gamertag that purchased the games, you just need to go into settings and select "Play Offline" (verbage is something like that). Basically, you need to set your console up to be in "Offline Mode".

Xbox Live is now up, so you shouldn't have to worry about that now.

 

Publishers have the ability to lock out there games from playing offline? sounds similar to a certain 24hr check in that was removed. If Ubisoft is doing this I won't be buying any game titles published by them.

 

It won't because of online reasons I don't buy UbiSoft games. I don't buy them because they're utter kack!

Except for Assassin's Creed 2 which was a massive improvement over the original. until they killed the series by releasing a game every 34 minutes or so.
