Need straight answer on headsets. Virtual Surround or not?

I purchased one of the licensed XBOX one headsets and the sound quality is lacking. I am looking to upgrade to something else but I can't find a straight answer on the net about surround sound capability. I read that the headset adapter has the capability
of virtual surround processing but it needs a patch. These lurkings on the net are almost a year old now. Has there ever been a patch done?

Do the turtle beach XO four or XO seven support virtual surround sound? How about the polk Strikers? I have read that they are capable of virtual surround but the limiting factor is the MS headset adapter. Has this been fixed or not?

I don't want to drop $100 - $200 on another set of earphones and not have surround sound. I am loving my XBox one but there are some things like this that are driving me nuts.

What's the deal with the audio out of the controller.

Is it straight stereo
Or does it have virtual surround encoded so if I hook up any headset I will have simulated surround?

Just to get one thing straight. Your priority is the headset to be for the PC or the Xbox?

What I can already tell you is that the only real 7.1 ( and not virtual ) surround headset right now is the Tiamat 7.1 by Razer from what I know cause Ive been researching for months about headsets myself. Let me know and I'll try to be of help.

 

The XO 7s are supposed to but if you are willing to spend at $100 more then you can get the 500 X Stealth Turtle Beaches which are the ones I have. They are completely wireless and support 7.1 surround sound.

 

If you want the best sound you will have to spend at least $150

 

First off I'd stay away from Turtle beach. If you're looking for a "gaming" headset I'd either go with a pair of Astro a40s or A50s. I have both and they're amazing. If you don't want to spend that much I'd go with the Skullcandy PLYR1s. You can also buy
an Astro Mix amp and a pair of studio fidelity headphones and a mic. I'd suggest going to the other consoles' forums and searching for a headphone thread. There are a lot of people over there that know their stuff and make some good suggestions, most of which
will work with the xbox one also.

 

First off I would ignore the warning to stay away from Turtle Beach. They are great and the surround sound is excellent. Read some reviews on all makes of headset and go from there. But as was said above for decent surround sound you will have to pay
a bit more.

 

I more specifically want to know about the surround capabilities.

 

the xo's supposedly support virtual surround but until Microsoft update the controller to pass a surround sound signal then they will be stereo for now.

 

the XO 7's are a cracking headset, just want that update now.

 

Thanks for the answers guys. So the update HAS NOT been done yet? Any idea when that will happen? I have seen posts about the "update" for almost a year now. I just got my XBox One a few weeks ago, and while I love it, there are some things that just
make me go, "huh?"

I can't believe that this has not been a priority update.

I am thinking about getting the Polks because of their more all around versatility. I am sure the sound quality of music will be stellar with them. I just wonder if the Striker headset will support surround when the update happens. I will have to look
into this more.
