  1. Need Help with NAT Type "Strict"

    Greetings ALL,

I've been struggling to get my NAT type away from strict for some time with my 360. Yesterday I got my XBONE hooked up (Yay, right?). I've always known that I've had a NAT issue, but never had good details. The XBONE OS gives a bit more info, but I realize
now that I'm "Strict", and I can't play with my friends easily.

I've gotten to the end of my rope trying to perform all the router acrobatics (along with dealing with some really non-intuitive modem firmware) to resolve this but am truly at the end of my rope, and also desperately want to play my new machine. Was hoping
    the forum could help.

Below is the info on my router, etc:

What Country/State/Province do you live in? USA

Modem brand & model number: WESTELL 7500 Series [A90 -750020-07] -- Westell Firmware (blue and white). It is a gateway.

Router brand & model number: NA, gateway. Not bridged to any router.

How many 360 and One consoles are connected to this router?: XBONE and XBOX360, though I've taken the 360 offline/unplugged (I'd like to have both but disconnected simply to troubleshoot)

Wired or wireless (for each console): Ethernet Wired to the XBONE

Things you have tried: Ya know, the basics -- reset router, verified public IP, enabling UPnP, disabling UPnP, enabling DMZ, Setting up Static IP and Port Forwarding

Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/no/Unknown: Tried both. Tried enabling, restarting, disabling, restarted, enabling, restarted.

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type? Yes -- sometimes tests show "Moderate", most checks show "Strict" XBONE comments: "Your network is behind a port-preserving port-symmetric NAT"

Any Error Codes you encounter: See above

Who is your ISP?(Internet Service Provider): Century Stink

    Again, I've tried/verified:

    • Router Firewall security is set to as low as possible (no restrictions)
    • My IP is public
    • UPnP is on -- Tried turning off/refresh, on/refresh
    • I'm NOT getting a Teredo IP address error
    • Only have the XBONE active (XBOX360 unplugged) -- I understand the Westell 7500 gateway does not support multiple consoles
    • Tried DMZ by selecting the Static NAT button -- selected the XBONE MAC address, selected enabled
Set XBONE to static IP and then attempted a Port Forwarding profile:
    • Port 88 (UDP)
    • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
    • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
    • Port 80 (TCP)
    • Port 500 (UDP)
    • Port 3544 (UDP)
    • Port 4500 (UDP)
The efforts have become very frustrating as the firmware is not very intuitive and clear. Sometimes when you select things you're not sure if they are applied etc. YES, the firmware is at it's best possible update (you can't update it...). I'm just about
to call the ISP again and tell em to shove it and give me a new gateway/router.

Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for any advice and support.

    WB

    :)

I can't play online on Gta V but i have Gold

Not all IPv4 connections are strict and even if the NAT type is strict it can be opened. - There is no need to upgrade to IPv6

Xbox One NAT type: Strict.... Help

If it's still strict after you open the proper ports, try resetting your modem and router, then hard reset your console.

This site will help you open the right ports
    Open Port

Just select your router and follow the instructions. Do not download anything from the site, it's not necessary. It's a safe site, but port forwarding manually is very easy.

  5. If the portforwarding does not work, you can try to put your Xbox on DMZ mode, this will place it outside of the network to connect directly to the internet.

DMZ should be found under the advanced options with the firewall settings (if you have this, all routers are different)

But seeing how many issues you're having with the software of this router and after a quick search online seeing that a lot of people have issues with 7500series to where they can't even open the port forward page I think it's best to get a new router from
    your ISP like you suggested

I've had a similar issue. via wireless i connect to internet, so it says 'everything is good, your console is connected to the internet' but when i try to sign in it says "go online, then try again". Doesn't make any *** sense. been talking to the helpdesk
for an hour and a half already, tried everything, still nothing. but it also says NAT type: strict but the representative hasn't even mention that.

    Unable to join friend

As mentioned above it is most likely a NAT problem, i assume your NAT is Moderate or Strict. It needs to be set to Open to get the best chance of connecting to everyone.

This Article can help you identify your NAT problems and hopefully rectify them:

Can't connect to a specific person

its usually NAT types that cause these problems, for best results you need to be sure you are both running an OPEN NAT type, open nat can connect with strict and moderate, but moderate and strict sometimes struggle to connect with one another.

making sure UPnP is enabled in the settings can help.

    Can't connect to Xbox live

You need to open your NAT settings, they are either strict or moderate. If they are either strict or moderate you cannot connect to anyone unless they have open settings.
