    I purchased an Xbox live gold membership code for my son. I remember setting it up on his Xbox. Are you supposed to be automatically logged into Gold when you turn on the Xbox? He isn't seeing anything different, and we have no idea how to get to Gold.

    Is this the initial setup update? Initial setup needs to be done online.

    Hi, my xbox often keeps running the first time set up, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week.

    can anyone give me some pointers as to why?

    Is the account you are using to post here his account? It shows that this account has gold.

    If his account is the one that is signed into the one, it should show his content. along with allowing him to do all the things that gold membership allows.

    You can set the xbox to automatically log into his profile when you start it, if he is the only one going to be playing on it, it is alot more handy to do this.

    Before getting a new HDD, try clearing the console cache by going to settings on the dashboard, go to memory, and then press Y on the HDD and hit clear cache. If this doesn't help I would try formatting the HDD as well.

    Based on your problem returning, it's possible that you have a faulty harddrive. You might want to contact support and see if the hard drive is covered under warranty:

    followed the above and was fine untill this morning 25 jan, turned off the console last night after having no problems, then this morning i was asked to run the setup again
