Need help with external storage registering as media storage. please help!

i got a new hard drive for my Xbox one. It is USB 3.0 and 2tb. I p,ugged it in to the xbone. It started to format And then I assidently lent on my controller and it canceled the formatting. It now registers as a media device and I can't get it to go to
the same screen and start formatting again. help!

External storage stopped working

hello . I need help . My external storage will not work anymore. The Xbox isn't registering it . I've tried all the reboots etc . Can anyone help me I've tried everything

Need Help!!! Seagate Back up plus external drive USB 3.O 3TB?

I bought a Seagate back up plus external hard drive usb 3.0 3TB and when I put it in it keeps saying media storage ready I want game storage not media storage it wont let me put games in there. Help!!!! Has anyone bought the same external drive? Seagate

Have you tried going to manage storage section of the settings app?

See if you can format it from there.

I just picked up a Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB, model STDR2000100, and it is doing the same thing. The XBox Settings will not let me format it. I also tried formatting it on a Windows 8.1 computer so see if the console would format it then. No luck.

Thanks for coming to the forums. We understand having issue with an external Hard drive. Currently the console and PC are reading it as a media drive. This will not allow you to install games on it. When you plug it in on the Xbox and it asks you to format
for the Xbox go ahead and do this. You can look over the
troubleshoot external hard drive. If it doesn't meet three requirements it will treat it as a media hard drive also. Also check out

manage storage Xbox one for more information on setting up an external.

When you first connect, Xbox will prompt you to format your device. You can use it for Xbox games and apps, or for personal media such as pictures, music, and video. (Xbox will treat devices that don’t meet the above requirements as media storage.)

If after all this and still reading it as a media storage, it may be the external is not compatible. You would need to reach out to the manufacturer then.

i believe so too due to both hard drives work fine on my pc, and if i wanted to use them for gaming storage i could. sadly, sending them to a friend to test isn't an option, and if it was, assuming it worked for them, we wouldn't be any closer as to why its not doing what it should on my console and with about 8 or 9 different salutions trying to solve the problem, all of which should of worked if the console was the problem, as much as i believe it IS the console, i have to try all options and assume the possibility it might have something to do with the type of hard drive. and if i did buy a memory stick that meets the requirements, at least i can say i tried
