Need help removing Accent from My Gamertag (Classic Gamertag Issue)

Hello,

I own the og classic gamertag “Kim”, and it has always been my primary gamertag. However, my display name now appears as “Kím” with an accent, even though my classic gamertag is still “Kim”, and I want to remove the (Kím) with accent and just have everywhere the Kim without accent.

This has caused some issues because:

1. I want my gamertag to display exactly as “Kim” everywhere, but I doesn’t let me change it Kim.

2. That Kím with the accent only lets me change to Kïm or Kîm and I want to show the display name too as Kim.

3. I still own the classic gamertag “Kim,” and in games is seen as (Kim) but in my profile is seen as Kím.

4. I’m unsure if there is a way to remove the accent without changing my gamertag entirely.

I’d like to know:

• Is there any way to remove the accent (Kím) and display just “Kim” again?

• Can Xbox support manually revert my display name to match my classic gamertag?

• Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I have seen people who've had issues with their gamertag where some letters were capitalized but not the way the person wanted it. I'm afraid though that there is no way to change the gamertag to remove the accent as it's still technically the same gamertag. The only way to remove it would be to completely change it but then you run the risk of losing that name.

I don't believe that Xbox has any updates releasing regarding gamertag changes. As for the Steve tag. If they are showing 2 tags then it may be an issue between the older 360 gamertag and the Xbox One/Series gamertag. There are some things the 360 can't handle such as length of tag or password and so it shows as a separate one.

Thanks for the response. I understand that Xbox treats the accented version as the same gamertag. Since my classic gamertag is still “Kim”, is there any way for Xbox support to manually adjust my display name to match it?

I don’t want to risk changing my gamertag entirely, as that could result in losing “Kim” permanently. I just want my display name to reflect my actual gamertag correctly. For example, if you check the person with the gamertag Steve, you can clearly see that the person has 2 gamertags but there literally the same. Is there any workaround or upcoming update that might allow small formatting corrections like this?

Hi David,

The Xbox Gamertag FAQ from Microsoft support's page states:
"Q: I have more than 12 characters in my gamertag! Do I need to change it?
"A: Nope. If you like your gamertag the way it is, you keep it."

Well, I like my gamertag the way my classic gamertag is. Why am I forced to change it for the modern gamertag?

Re: My statement about cloning or duplicating:
I dont want to clone or duplicate a gamertag from one account to another. I want to clone or duplicate the name that already exists in my classic gamertag to my modern gamertag.

There HAS to exist an employee at Microsoft that is able to manage account details from the backend. How do I get in contact with them to resolve this issue?
