  1. Need help, I think a repair store (not a moms or pops shop) has scammed me with a bricked xbox

So about 3 weeks ago, I tried to play xbox and it wouldn't show anything on the screen. I tried all the tips online and chatted with Microsoft repair only to come to the conclusion that it needed to be repaired. I looked around and found a store called "UbreakIfix" who agreed to make the repair, they stated that the HDMI may have gone bad and that they would swap it out. I get to the store a week later and was told the xbox is not fixable, he tries to explain saying something about "hdmi pads" .. I look at the HDMI slot and the the HDMI input was all bended and the pin inside was broken, theh obviously failed while trying to repair it and physically broke it. I stood my ground and told them I wouldn't take it back until they left it the way I brought it in. Today, I went for it after another week, the guy rings me up and says "it displays now" so I paid and brought it home. I get home, and it boots directly into an error screen with options to factory rest, I tried both options (keep data, delete data) and after it gets to 5% it boots back to same error screen. I looked up error code 106 (which is what I get) and through out my research I keep seeing "insider xbox". I did a little research and still not 100% sure what insider xbox is but think this is what the shop gave me. I think what they did is found another broken xbox with working hdmi and put my xbox casing on it, so on the outside it still shows the same serial number.

Can someone verify if this os build number is a "insider xbox build" os or if its a public release

    1911.191213-0400

I bought my xbox one x brand new almost 2 years ago, I barely game and only used it maybe once a couple of months. Rona has the fam short on money so I opted for taking to a repair shop who quoted me $119 to fix vs paying Microsoft $250 and Im regretting that so much now. If that build is indeed some "insider build" then I know they basically swapped covers on my xbox.

This will hurt some mom and pop shops. Gamestop will be fine unless devise away for these independent shops to also sell used game. I think that's the major gripe for me.

And why go to gamestop. When sometimes the mom and paops gaming store have better deals. But i really tread as I sayed earlyer on this thread.

You really have that kind of option? I know I don't. Gamestop drove all the Mom & Pop shops out of business where I live a long time ago. Just did a search though and found 53 Gamestop stores within 25 miles of me. 53.5 miles equals 80 stores. The guys I
used to BS with at the Mom & Pop shop I used to shop at? All Gamestop employees now.

Pre-Release Games are safe to play?

What exactly is a mom and pop store? I live in a rural area outside of Chicago and spend some time per week in the city and yet to see a mom and pop shop in the city nor my hillbilly town, just wondering.

    Classic xbox help

I don't think you'll be able to get that info here - you're best bet is to speak to someone that fixes original xboxes. usually your local mom and pop shop can assist.

    Hi there!

In addition to the suggestions here, I would suggest pawn/second hand shops, mom and pop stores, as well as reputable online stores for a used console. You are likely to find an original Xbox One for a lot cheaper, compared to the S and X. If you are patient
enough, it may be worth holding off, until deals come around over Christmas.

Hope these ideas help, and good luck! :)

Good idea! Hope Fods Fods can find such shops there.
