    Need help finding IP address without having a tv


    Home for the holidays and don’t have a television in the house to play on but I do have a computer. Everything is going swimmingly up until I’m being asked to input my Xbox’s IP and the only way I’m finding how to get the IP is through the Xbox which I can’t access because the lack of a television. Any help is appreciated

    Hi Zach,

    To help you find the IP address on the Xbox One, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

    Using your Xbox One controller go to Settings> All Settings> Network> Network settings> Advanced settings.

    Let us know how it goes.

    IP addresses are public, so even without the site people can find your IP address. So it's not actually illegal for them to get your IP address. If someone is actually using the address to DDoS then that is illegal and you would need to contact your ISP to alert them of the issue.

    Wireless issues with a static IP Address.

    Not sure about your particular router configuration but If you know the static/reserved IP address then you should be able to find that in your DHCP configuration if it is a reserved IP address and change the MAC address on it to the MAC address of the new
    console. Typically you can assign a reserved IP address in the DHCP pool and an actual static IP address is configured in a separate section. Without knowing your configuration it is hard to say what you need to do.

    That is great news! :)

    The IP address that shows up on your console's network settings (169.bla.bla.bla) is a link-local address or Auto-IP. It will do so when requesting an IP address via DHCP server fails. I can think of a numerous of things that could have triggered this problem.
    But since this was resolved by simply turning off your console for an hour it would point to fact that the external network adapter was in need for a coffee break or something :)
