Need help canceling Gold, downgrading to just Xbox Live

Hi,

I'm sure to some this is a stupid question, but I can't find an answer anywhere, so now I get to risk looking stupid by asking you all. Now that Xbox no longer requires a Gold subscription to stream Netflix, Hulu and other apps, I would like to cancel my
Gold subscription but am worried that by doing so it will stop my ability to stream without taking further steps that I'm not aware of.

So, I am wondering, if I cancel the Gold subscription, will my Xbox Live account stay open and allow me to stream, or do I need to take further action to continue to be able to access my apps after canceling the Gold?

Hi Could somebody please help me with canceling the live gold subscription. I just wanted to join for 1 month. I have gone into my account and xbox gold but it doesnt give me the option to cancel subscription

Hi, no question is stupid is what I'v always been told. I would suggest first to check out the requirements for steaming media from each service you intend to use. Go to there website and read the Faqs for the service. Maybe they have a question submission
form to ask your question. Then I'd check the service faqs for the app service you want to use before downloading or activating it on to your xbox. Now I fear my answer may be stupid. But hopefully its in the right ballpark. Thanks for the question.

You are correct in the fact that you no longer need a Gold membership to access apps such as Netflix. You do, however, require a subscription to any app that requires it which can usually be purchased through their website.

If you game online though you will need to a Gold membership to access online multiplayer services.

I understand I need to maintain my Netflix and other app subscriptions. I also know I no longer need a Gold membership to access them. My question is, if I drop my Gold membership will it just default back to an Xbox Live level where I can continue to access
my apps, or will I need to take further steps at that point to ensure I can access my online apps.

Once you revert to silver you can still access your apps. There is nothing else you need to do.

It depends on what you did to try to downgrade. In order to downgrade from Ultimate to just a standard Gold subscription, you would need to cancel Ultimate (or wait for the subscription to run out). Once it has completed ended, then you add a new Gold subscription.

If you tried to downgrade by adding a standard Gold subscription, the Gold would have been converted to Ultimate instead of changing the type of subscription. Then by cancelling Ultimate, you cancelled everything.
