Samsung and plasma. I have a 50", about 2 years old. The burn factor is not a issue anymore. The picture quality is still superior to LED/LCD. Lighting is the key.... a darker room will be required, or a good darkening blind.

I don't know the technical side of TV's but for gaming and watching Blu Rays I've always found a Samsung LED to be brilliant, better than any other make I've had before.

  3. I will throw my vote in for my 42" LG LED/LCD TV's. They have been great TV's for me. And they get the workout everyday, either myself gaming. Or the little ones watching their favorite shows or movies. The LED one is hooked
up to my X1 and 360. And the image quality improved greatly with the supplied 4K HMDI cable. They are also reasonable priced also. The LED one came with a soundboard and cost around $650. My LCD is in the bedroom and is about two years old, still going
strong. Most likely will look into replacing both around tax time next year.

Do you really need a smart TV? I can't really imaging anyone with a XO would need a smart TV, and do you need a 3D tv? only you could answer that, if the answer is no I would recommend keeping your current TV and saving the money for the price of either
4k, or a bigger tv comes available for your budget, but you why buy a new TV for on a 3in difference?

  5. "The TV refresh actually don't make a difference after a 100hz"

I did actually hear that the human eye/brain can't process anything higher than 100Hz, 120Hz at a push so unless there are some more technical reason to why people make 600Hz TVs other than using big numbers as a marketing tool, this is indeed true.

As for "Do you really need a smart TV?" - Most Xbox One owners won't need one at all, this is true. The features are usually just iPlayer, Netflix etc. Some may have extra apps, mine came with a Rightmove app for some bizarre reason as well as a Fitness
app. If it's going to cost extra money then it isn't really worth it but I have one and I enjoy being able to use these apps on the big screen without having to boot up the Xbox. Really it's nothing more than a first world privilege.

  6. @kingvas, with LED, you don't have to worry about how bright or dark a room gets like you do with plasma. Need help buying a new TV for my xbox one. ;)

  7. In regards to the Smart TV, you're right - it's not something that's really necessary. It's actually kind of hard to find a good quality TV like some of the ones we've mentioned nowadays that ISN'T a Smart TV though. However, if you can find one, it's usually
a much better deal in terms of price.

I don't recall the brand, because it wasn't a particularly famous one, but I heard of a 4K TV a few months ago that you could get for about $3,000 BECAUSE it didn't come with Smart TV or 3D or really any additional media at all - it was just a really nice-looking
    TV.

On a side note, I'm personally happy to see so many Samsung fans on this site - it makes me feel like I've made the right choice in which TV I bought so many years ago. Need help buying a new TV for my xbox one. :)

Doing a quick search, I think this was the 4K TV I was talking about:
    Seiki SE39UY04 (4K UHD)
, which is apparently now valued at only $700 and is available for $500.

  9. Personally, I wouldn't trust a 4K TV at that price from a brand I've never heard of. On 39", 1080p is more than adequate and resolution isn't everything. It's not at all unusual for small brands to hype up on resolution without putting any effort in to the
things that really give a great image.

  10. Plasma you don't get the richness in colors like you do in Led, you will get better blacks on a plasma though.

Can't say about new plasma's but i had a few problems with screen burn on a Panasonic plasma a few years ago.

Like Galactic said the higher the refresh rate is the faster the response....

I brady i would recommend you check sites out like What Hi Fi and join AV Forums.

There's forums on there where you can read the pro's and cons about each models etc.

Put a lot of time in on research it does pay in the end.

  11. Would forget 4K for now you don't need it, there's not a lot of 4k stuff out there at the moment. As some one said you don't really need a smart tv either if you have a XBOne.

As advised earlier AV Forums is the site too help you with your purchase.

By the time 4K is worth using, there will be much better sets at a much better price. Early adoption with TV technology never pays off for anything more than bragging rights.

When HD TVs were first released, they cost thousands and didn't really have much to show off about other than 1 HDMI connection which would of course support higher res. However, now that HD is the norm, all consoles are HD, TV stations are all adding their
HD channels, I picked got a Samsung LED Smart TV with 3 HDMI ports, external media through USB etc. etc. and it only cost £350.

By all means, buy 4K, use it a few times, enjoy it but by the time I make the jump I'll have twice the tele at half the price.

Panasonic and Samsung are the best TV brands. I have a 65inch panasonic. it's a a beauty when you have it calibrated correctly. The TV refresh actually don't make a difference after a 100hz. So its up to you.

Another vote for Samsung here. I've a Samsung 46" 120hz LCD that's about 6 years old, and I'm looking to replace it with another Samsung in the 50-55" range.
