also, the dvd drive isnt poor and old. as i stated in my original post, other games work fine. its just this single game that has problems.

All Xbox 360 consoles are now old. In technology terms they're technically 'ancient'. The final model of the Xbox 360, the model E was released way back in 2013. The DVD's drives will give give out over time, it's not a matter 'if', it's 'when'. They can also behave in strange ways, some games working fine, some not, even when others are running with no issues.

Even when the Xbox 360 was current gen, the second most common fault next to the notorious RRD was optical drive failure.

That being said, I'm all for preserving old consoles, I've got some old consoles myself which I fire up from time to time.

There are a few options:

• Get a new copy of the game (try installing this to the hard drive)
  
• Buy a new external USB drive (the console supports drives up to 2TB) and install the game to this drive.
  
• Replace the internal hard drive. Hard drives are mechanical, they won't last forever. The Xbox 360 uses the internal drive as a cache, if this drive isn't working it could also cause crashes.
  
• Take or send your Xbox 360 to an external repair shop and get it serviced.
  
• Get a replacement 360 console.

Solution 1. Power cycle your console

Please Turn off console > (press and hold power button for 10 seconds) unplug everything from the console > wait for 2 minutes and plug everything back > Turn On the console.

Solution 2.Try removing your account and add it back again.

To remove your account:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.

Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm.

To add it again:

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

Select Sign in.

Select Add & manage.

Select Add new.

Enter your Microsoft account email address and password.

Solution 3. Clear your local save games file.

Make sure that there’s no disc in the disc tray.

Scroll left on the Home screen to open the Guide.

Select Settings > All Settings

Choose System > Storage.

Now select Clear local saved games.

Choose Yes to confirm.

Restart your console

Solution 4. Try to do a soft factory reset without removing any games and apps.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select Settings > System > Console info > reset then keep my games and apps.

NOTE: This will delete the profiles on your account, make sure that you remember the email and password to your account.
