Need Advice On External Drive

I just purchased an XBOX ONE and I need some advice as to what external hard drive I should buy(Or if a 3tb drive is enough) I was checking out the
STBV3000100 seagate external drive or maybe the western digital My Book 3TB drive..both are around the same price just not sure what I should get. I believe both are 5400 RPM so I wont notice much difference in speed..was also wondering when I
turn on the XBOX ONE when I do get this new hard drive I assume it always needs to be plugged in when I turn on the XBOX ONE since the majority of the games will be on it

How to manage ex-hard drive from laptop/Mobile with Win8?

Hi guys,

need your advice.. I've plugged in my Xbox One the external hard drive to use the Xbox One as the media player. My question is hw can I connect this external hard drive with my laptop, mobile and tablet (everything on Win8) to manage my files etc. on the
hard drive..

For now I have to everytime unplug the hard drive from the Xbox and plug it to my laptop..

External Hard Drive Advice

You can even find a 2TB or 4TB Xbox-branded Seagate drive now It should be purchasable from your country's Microsoft Store website:
www.microsoftstore.com under "Xbox", "Xbox Accessories".

You can leave your external drive plugged in the console, furthermore - the Xbox One will need the drive to download and install patches to.

Mighty Miro WD has good info in their response.

I will only add that HD's do not all work the same or response the same to the Xbox One.

I have had more success with using the WD MyPassport Ultra 1TB HD.

*My only suggestion is to not purchase an external HD that needs to use a power plug in addition to USB 3.0

 

i got the WD mybook 3 tb and it works fantastic, .....so far.

 

also get one with a power cord because they have a fan in it. one without will overheat because the xbox one is putting those things to work. the prices are pretty *** inexpensive so dont be cheap!

 

so i just went to best buy and bought a toshiba external 1tb hard drive, and my xbox one detects it, but when i go to settings and then to manage storage, and select it by using the start button, it doesn't say to format it or anything. i don't know what
to do! HELP!!!!!

 

You should be prompted to format it once plugged in. Usually if it's USB 3.0

 

But it doesn't say to format it when i plug it in.

 

Does the HD have partitions?

Does the drive require an power cable in addition to the usb 3.0?

Plug it into your PC and make sure there are not partitions and that the drive is formatted so that the Xbox one will recognize it and then the prompt should come up.
