  1. Near Constant "Installation Stopped" When Installing Purchased Games

For the last few weeks it has been near impossible to download and correctly install games to my Xbox One X. Games that were already installed prior to the last few weeks all work perfectly, and connect and play online flawlessly.

The download will start normally, with the game and any relevant DLC being added to the queue, and the usual wildly fluctuating download speed will be reported.

    Then, the fun begins.

The download will just stop. The "Installation Stopped" notification appears. Repeatedly. Again, and again, and again. Sometimes it stops and starts itself at a pace so fast the notifications are popping up while I'm navigating my way to the download queue
via the initial notification. It's a fun little game, which is handy, because I can't install the the actual games I've actually paid for.

Eventually, the installation will complete. Good news, right?

    Wrong.

This is where we roll a dice. Sometimes, the game will now start (after going off to download the save file which can take anywhere between 2 seconds and 10 minutes), but, sometimes I will get an error stating the there is a problem with the System Update,
and that I should do an "Offline Update". Not that there is anything obviously wrong with the OS, and notwithstanding the fact that games that were already installed prior to this fiasco continue work perfectly (on and offline).

Now, the "Offline Update" is bucket of fun all by itself (it tells you to use a USB drive that's "at least 4GB" for a file that's 4.9GB - Stop laughing at the back, I'm not making this up), but, never one to pass up the opportunity to waste my time jumping
through hoops for the vague insinuation of a "fix", I've done this. It makes exactly, and precisely no difference, I'm exactly where I was when I started, except it's now dark outside, and I'm hungry.

I've called the MS Support regarding this matter, and was talked through resetting the console, despite my repeated attempts to explain to the gentleman that I'd already done this, several times. Still, being a sucker for jumping through the aforementioned
hoops, I did it. Again. I was then instructed to download another game, and the gentleman assured me he'd call me back later that day to check everything was working like a well oiled machine.

That was 5 days ago. No call, not even a text. Now I know how my Ex feels.

    So, what's going on?

It's a problem with my internet, right? Well, maybe. Using WiFi or wired makes no difference, and nothing else in my house has any problem doing anything online. Indeed, the console itself has no issue streaming 4K TV, or playing the online games that were
already installed. If it is a problem with the Network Connection, it's not one that's reported by the Network Diagnostic tools on the Xbox, which assure me that everything is fine, no problem here, nothing to see, move along. There's also the fact that everything
was working fine until a few weeks ago and the games that are working were all downloaded using the same set up, nothing has changed regarding my router, etc.

I'm fast running out of patience with this. There's currently a little over 200 games sat "ready to install" in my library, so by my reckoning, this issue has rendered somewhere in the region of £8000 functionally useless. Redmond, We Have A Problem.

    Any ideas?

    :)

Ok, so somewhat unsurprisingly, initiating the download from the store doesn't work either.

I have officially lost all patience with this nonsense.

The current download (initiated from the Store, as per the video provided) has stopped 21 times and has managed the grand total of 1.98GB of 19.37 GB

To soothe my furrowed brow, I've stopped the download, and am currently streaming a 4K movie via Amazon ON THE SAME CONSOLE that won't install games I've purchased without even a sniffle of buffering. So, please do tell me how this is my Network Settings.

Seriously, what am I supposed to do here? There's £8000 of content I've paid for being rendered completely inaccessible, the support helpline is basically telling me to "Turn it off, Turn it on again", then not following up.

    This is a joke.

    Hi

    Thanks for the timely response.

Regarding the first link, that's referring to installing games from disc. I only own one game on disc (Red Dead Redemption 2 - It's pretty good, by the way), and, ironically enough, that installed without an issue (though that was before all this kicked
off). I'm talking about digital purchases. Hilariously, I moved to all digital purchases years ago, for the sake of convenience. I know, I amuse myself, too.

I should have mentioned this in my first post, now I think about it, but I'm not using an external storage of any kind, everything is happening on the internal drive.

There is plenty of space free on the internal drive (I mean, without wishing to press the point, my ability to fill the drive up is somewhat hampered by my inability to reliably download anything that works). Besides which, as I recall, if there's not enough
space on the drive, the download won't even start. And, if it doesn't start, it can't repeatedly stop, if you catch my drift.

The network and port settings are as listed. Again, it was working without issue, and nothing has changed.

To the second answer, the NAT is open. Even if it wasn't, I wouldn't really mind if the download was slow, just so long as it, you know, worked.

Watching the video you provided, I am using my own profile, etc. The only thing I haven't tried is initiating the download from the Store as opposed to the "Ready To Install" section of the library. I'll try this once the current stuttering attempt has completed.

Call me a cynic, but I'm going to assume that using the Store as a launcher isn't going to work (and, frankly, if it does, MS have entered the realm of Kafka). So, I'm assuming the issue is either server-side, or my Xbox HDD is about to shuffle its mortal
coil. As such, what are my options?

So to answer the direct question from this reply, it could be the CDN (Content Delivery Network). So Xbox Live, game servers, movies and TV are wholly different networks, and most of them managed by different companies. You're going through Xbox Live for
Live services (friends, LFG, Clubs, etc), but the termination point for multiplayer games are the services set up by the developer and publisher which could be anywhere, discrete private data centers, Azure, GCP, AWS, shared data centers, or any combination
of the like. So the disparity you're seeing for downloading games vs. other services could be due to what CDN you're connecting to or any other number of things between your WiFi antenna, ethernet cable, ISP, ISP routes, backbone, distant ends ISP, distant
ends routes, CDN, etc. Just any number of reasons.

I am very curious to see what the result is of connecting to a different network. I think that getting a call back from Official Support is the best way to go as they can
contact you, go through specific details for your setup, that we wouldn't necessarily want to post in a public forum, to help troubleshoot to resolution, or at least identification of the issue.

I think the next step of a separate network is a good one to help narrow down where the issue might be. And I wish I could be more help for you now. Keep us up to date!

I'm sorry you're having quite the time with this. Sounds like you've tried a number of things, but I just want to make

sure you check and try the steps on this page.

https://youtu.be/HvbKFEtncao, and the channel has a number of excellent support videos for a number of issues.

If it is a network issue, then it might be a need to
open the Xbox Live ports on your router/modem
, but I wouldn't think this would be the cause, though not impossible, just unlikely.

The other thing I would check is your storage space. Under Settings > System > Storage, it'll have a drive by drive breakdown of how much storage is available on each, and which is the primary instillation drive (where things are set to install automatically),
that is assuming you have external drives hooked up. With that assumption you'll want to check if that primary install drive is low on space. Additionally, I think it would be good to change the primary instillation drive to test if the install persists
across multiple drives, or if it seems to be an issue with just one.

Let us know what you find from those options and if it persists and we'll see what are the next best steps.

    Best of luck!
