Can some boby tell me how to change my NAT type to open because it was open a few hours ago and now its moderate and if i do anything else it goes to strick? I went to settings then network tested my multiplayer connection it was all good but it kicks me
offline. Then i clicked advanced settings changed my IP address to manual rewrote everything and its still at moderate so do i contact my internet provider and ask or what do i do??

    :)

    Hey there!

Okay, it may be down to your NAT Type being strict or moderate. Have a look at the

    Nat Type Strict (Or Moderate)
to find out if you have a strict or moderate NAT Type, and how to resolve it.

    Keep us posted!

Your ISP is not going to help, you can log into your router and set up port forwading, google "Xbox One port forward" and you'll find the instructions on how to do it. And here is the official link.

Using a Virgin Media SuperHub 2 I found that my NAT type would switch between open and moderate, even though I'd set up a static IP and forwarded the required ports, but placing the Xbox One's IP in the DMZ in the router's settings gave me consistently open
    NAT.

Right to change the NAT type to OPEN go to settings, Network and then select the option test multiplayer connection after that has finished hold both the triggers and bumpers on the controller at the same time it will then go to a different screen, then
press A and your NAT type will then be OPEN.

    ^^^THIS.

Using the 'trick' Danielson mentioned will work... but from what I've been told it's only temporary and you'll have to keep checking to see if the NAT has reverted back to moderate
or strict. Seems kind of silly for them to even have that option... if it doesn't keep your NAT open... why bother?

I put my X1's IP in the DMZ and I always, always, always have open NAT. DMZ = Set it and forget it.

From what I've read, it's related to using instant on mode and UPnP with certain routers. Something to do with ports not re-opening when the Xbox One is turned back on, so you can have open NAT sometimes and moderate at others. If that's true, I'm not sure
if it's something Microsoft needs to fix, or whether it's just poor implementation of UPnP by certain brands/models of router.

I used to have an Xbox One that made coil whine noise when it was turned off in instant on mode, so I used power saving mode for a while, and I always had open NAT then, and that was just using automatic settings. It's only when I used instant on mode that
NAT was sometimes moderate, which does back up that theory.

Are there any security issues with this? I buy stuff from the Xbox store, use logins & passwords for various web apps, etc.

  14. Basically, putting a device in the modem/router's DMZ is exposing the device directly to the internet, thus bypassing firewalls and security measures. Definitely not something you would want to do with a PC as that would be risky, considering how many different
servers and networks your PC is exposed to in a typical surfing session.

The reason it is 'safer' to do this with the Xbox is that it is logging onto a secured network that is set up for Xbox use only. Therefore you have more robust security measures that can be in place and the network itself can be locked down easier since
only certain machines (Xbox consoles and whatever maintenance units MS may utilize) have access to it.

I purchase content regularly myself and game nightly and have *crosses fingers* had no problems in 9 years of being on XBL. Of course nothing is 100% safe... but if I thought it was that much of a risk, I wouldn't do it.

With a home router, the DMZ basically bypasses any firewall rules and opens up all ports. Personally, I don't see that as a security risk when it's a games console that's placed in the DMZ. Obviously, it's different with a PC, as there may be attack vectors
for a hacker to exploit, such as people using an old OS, known vulnerabilities in a new OS etc.

I have never heard a single account of a games console being hacked because it was in the DMZ. Any time someone has their account stolen, it seems to be either because they used the same login details for another site that got hacked, there was an exploit
in the service itself (e.g. the PSN hack), or phishing or other social manipulation tactics were used.
