    NAT type and Static IP

I have an Xbox one X connected to an airport extreme (by ethernet) which is itself, is connected to a gateway device from my ISP. Both routing devices have nat which has given me double NAT issues. I have the Airport in bridge mode so it isn't producing
NAT currently; the gateway is creating a NAT. I cannot access the settings on the gateway device and can not turn off its NAT. I contacted my ISP and asked them about putting that gateway into bridge mode and they told me that our town is not scheduled for
public IP conversion for a while. He did offer me a static IP address at 15 dollars a month. I need a little help understanding what this would mean for me. How would buying a static IP help me to fix this issue and open up the NAT type?

    :)

XBL Does Not Connect On Cold Boot

The title pretty much says it all. XBL does not connect on start up and and usualy I need to run a network connection test before it works.

    The Basics:

What Country/State/Province do you live in? Renton, WA

Modem brand & model number: RCA DHG563C

Router brand & model number: Cisco IOS Software, C870 Software (C870-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 12.4(15)T13

    Network Connection Type: Wired

If Wireless, what type of encryption are you using?
    N/A

Things you have tried: Researched forum and community for similar issues.

    Is UPnP Enabled? No

    Is NAT Type Open? No

Any Error Codes you encounter: Unable to connect to XBL on cold boot

What type of internet do you have? Cable

Who is your ISP(Internet Service Provider)? Comcast

When you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" what is the exact message shown on screen
9/10 times it connects, and if it fails I rerun untill it connects.

    Details:

    interface FastEthernet4

    description Internet Interface

    Port forwarding question

I have had similar issues with the XB1 and my BT Homehub 3. I originally assumed that it was the general state of the BF4 servers but turned out that my NAT type was moderate. Re-booting the router had no effect, but I managed to force it back to Open by assigning a static IP address via the router settings page.

Next day, the router NAT Type had reverted to Moderate and nothing would budge it. In the end I performed a hard reset of the router (to supposedly clear all existing links to devices past and present), and re-assigned a static IP address for the XB1 again. This did force the NAT to Open again, but we'll see whether that's still the case later this evening.

I have very little knowledge on networking - does anyone have any suggestions (I dont know what UPnP is, what it does or how to configure it)? I also have an XB 360 that still get used - does this mean that everytime I connect to Live, the XB1 NAT type will revert back to moderate?!

    NAT type and Static IP

It sounds like your ISP in your area is running the internet for your location like a large local area network.

Normally, you'd have a public IP address for your internet connection to your router and then a private IP address for the devices on your network

    Private IP's are either -

    192.168.x.x

    172.x.x.x

    10.x.x.x

You might log into your router and see if it shows the Internet IP address as one of those combinations I just posted. If it does, then that would explain why you're getting that Double Nat message.

On the back of your airport extreme, it appears that there's one Internet Port and 3 lan ports.

You might try and plug the network cable from your gateway into one of the lan ports and then plug another network cable from another lan port into your Xbox and see if that works. You're trying to use your router just simply as a switch there and share
out the local IP addresses that your ISP appears to be giving out.

    I hope that helps.

My friend is having "Join Failed" everytime when he tries to join my non-dedicated server on ARK.

Hi Filip. My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

If it worked while playing through cloud gaming, there is likely an issue with your network connection.

    > (btw my NAT changed to closed when i turned off xbox)

Sounds like you didn't set up a static IP address for your console. Changing your NAT type requires you to forward specific ports to your Xbox's IP address. However by default your router doesn't reserve IP addresses for certain devices so when the console is turned off and disconnected, another device can take the IP and break your port forwarding set up, and changing your NAT Type again. Setting a static IP make sure the console can only use it's IP.

For help with setting up a static IP for your devices, contact your internet provider or router manufacturer.

I'd also advise that your friend check their NAT Type too. Ideally, you should both have a moderate NAT type/

Multiple xboxs disconnect each other from live when signed in

If you use UPnP you don´t need Static IP´s. On my Xbox (only one) I use UPnP and if I give my XBOX an Static IP my NAT type gets back to moderate. That makes no sense for me - maybe it´s the implementation of UPnP in my router. Only if I don´t give my xbox
a static IP and use UPnP my XBOX works with open NAT. Try to change your xbox to a non static IP Adress. and restart your Router.

Xbox live disconnects periodically Nat type is moderate with a UPnP message

If you mean changing the xbox ip from its automatic to a manual "static" ip then yes i have and ive tried to make sure all the ports required are open on the router to that static ip. im a little tech savvy but not alot, the NAT type test i fear is giving
me a false positive as i run it twice and it eventually says open i played last night with the open nat type and xbox live disconnected again...
