    NAT Strict Status


    We are now receiving a NAT status of Strict which is not allowing us to host games or join games or chat with friends. We were wireless but are now using wired connection. Our router is Netgear CG3101D. Have tried everything port forwarding, port triggering
    etc etc. Have contacted Virgin Media no joy. Have chatted with XBox1 support no joy. Saying no Teredo address. Seem to have spent a fortune on this console and in a worse position than we were with 360 - only sold it and all games so that we could play
    and talk to friends who were upgrading to the 1.

    Online status unknown

    What does your Xbox show in your NAT status? To check your NAT status go to Home > Settings > Network Settings. Your NAT type will show under ‘Current Network Status’.

    If it's strict then you might not be able to join online games. You'll need to fix it in your modem/router.

    This is more than likely a NAT issue, when your in matchmaking on COD what does it say your NAT status is? strict moderate or Open?

    NAT Strict Status

    Did you previously have an open NAT?

    If so then your problem is probably the IP address changing causing mapping conflicts.

    Suddenly adding port forward settings may have made it worse

    I haven't owned a netgear for a few years but when I did there was a section called address reservation that allow you to reserve an IP address. Use that to reserve an IP address for the xbox1's MAC address. Also make sure the IP address in the xbox settings
    is set to automatic.

    After doing this make sure you clear all port forward settings and enable UPnP

    Then reboot the router while xbox is switched off.

    If done correctly the Address reservation in the router will cause the xbox to always get the same IP address and the UPnP should open the correct ports needed for an open NAT.

    If all this fails you should factory reset the router then set up address reservation again

    NAT issues

    On your Xbox go to Settings -> and choose Network. Under current Network Status Type, you will see if your NAT is Open or if it is Strict, if it is strict, only then you need to proceed
    with this guide. If it is not strict, then your issue is not nat related. After identifying the NATtype, choose Advanced Settings.

    Run a test of your Xbox Live connection. This sounds like an NAT issue, let us know if the test gives you a NAT status of Moderate or Strict.
