NAT - Strict and Behind Port Symmetric NAT

I recently switched from ATT to Vivint internet. With ATT I always showed a moderate NAT but dealt with it. Now I show a Strict NAT. I have tried everything, I think. Even the router has the most up to date firmware.

What Country/State/Province do you live in? San Antonio, TX

Modem brand & model number: Router is modem apparently, only one device, see next.

Router brand & model number: Vivint WRDB1200AC,

How many Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles are connected to this router?: 1 Xbox One, and a PS4 if it matters.

Wired or Wireless (for each console): Wired, PS4 is wireless

Things you have tried: I have tried port forwarding all ports shown on this site, DMZ, Upnp disable and enable, reset router

    Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/No/Unknown:Yes

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type?:NAT is strict, Behind Port Symmetric NAT

Any Error Codes you encounter: No error codes

Who is your ISP? (Internet Service Provider):Vivint. Getting 100mbps up and down.

    Thanks for the help.

    :)

  5. I would only forward these ports, and I would not recommend going to other sites for the ports needed for Xbox

    support.xbox.com/.../network-ports-used-xbox-live

Check this link and make sure that all the ports are the same way. If they are, I recommend setting the router back to factory settings, try the router and if the NAT type is strict, follow these steps

Test Multiplayer connection, when finished, do not hit A, hit both bumpers and triggers at the same time. This will take you to a Detailed screen with the NAT, wait for this to load, when it does hit B. Repeat these steps until the NAT Opens. Does these
steps before you go in and forward the ports.

  6. Since you also have a PS4 connected I assume you had UPnP enabled before giving you a moderate NAT. You CAN NOT port forward and have UPnP enabled at the same time.

Best thing to do in your case to enjoy both systems is DMZ your Xbox One (make sure to get a static IP for your Xbox One first) and also have UPnP active so you don't have any issues connecting online with your PS4

You can find out how to assign a static IP on your Xbox One here
    portforward.com/.../static-ip-xbox-one

I finally got a chance to try it out and Xbox Live is having difficulties. Although with DMZ it still shows strict, but I'm not sure if the service problems would affect that. I gave it a static IP, Upnp enabled and no port forwarding for the One.

I'll try it with port forwarding with the ports from above after Live is running normal.

Thanks for everyone's input so far.

NAT - Strict and Behind Port Symmetric NAT

Ok, well I disabled Upnp, and port forwarded the ports from the link above (also disabling DMZ after trying it and still getting strict). It is still at strict. I tried wireless as well and it's the same. I'm at a loss here. From what I've seen, many
    people have had this issue.

chudney31, can You check, what IP address Your router gets from internet provider? You can copy it here, first two octets, it would be something like this 122.354.xxx.xxx.

Strict NAT in most cases mean Carrier Grade NAT, what this mean exactly. It's simple, this mean, that Your router doing NAT for Your network and later internet provider router too doing NAT, but for their network.

So in such case, Port Forwarding, DMZ and UPnP/NAT-PMP can't fix the problem, because You can't configure internet provider router.

My IP address 170.72.xxx.xx I suppose that may be the case. But the PS4 in our home is at least getting moderate.

chudney31, yep, You have address from private IPv4 block, so this mean, that Your have Carrier Grade NAT.

What You can do to fix this problem, all simple, You need to contact Your internet provider and ask them for public IPv4 address.

It can be free or for some monthly fee, I don't think that it would be high. I'm pay $2,5 for static public IPv4 address.

Without public IPv4 address, You will always suffer from network issues.

Before I saw your post I called Vivint to ask about the problem. They said that they have had some problems with the router I have, in regards to consoles. So they are going to send me an Asus router instead. So hopefully that will fix the issue, if not
    I'll ask about a public IPv4.

How did you look the IPv4 info up? I noticed this weekend that my IP address shows a richmond, VA location but I'm in Texas. Does that have anything to do with this?

NAT - Strict and Behind Port Symmetric NAT

chudney31, nope, unfortunately new router can't fix this issue. Symmetric NAT in Your case is not an issue, but a technical feature. If You look at image, You will see, how Carrier Grade NAT work:

    [View:http://netnix.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/nat444.png:0:0]

It's easy, the following are the three ranges reserved for private networks (RFC 1918):

Name Address range Number of addresses Classful description Largest CIDR block

    24-bit block 10.0.0.0–10.255.255.255 16777216 Single Class A 10.0.0.0/8

    20-bit block 172.16.0.0–172.31.255.255 1048576 Contiguous range of 16 Class B blocks 172.16.0.0/12

    16-bit block 192.168.0.0–192.168.255.255 65536 Contiguous range of 256 Class C blocks 192.168.0.0/16

In case if You see such address on WAN interface of Your router, then You have Carrier Grade NAT.

About geographic location of Your IP address, You can't do anything with this, it's just a fact. Your internet provider can route Your traffic thru it's network from one state to another, so You would see the end node IP, IP of NAT router, that was latest
    in routing chain.

Maybe I'm missing something, my IP address starts with 170.72.xxx.xx, but the 20 bit block range seems to start at 172.xx.x.x..

Sorry if that seemed sarcastic, I wasn't trying to be. I was just trying to understand the range of IP addresses. I wasn't sure if maybe you misread my IP address, or if I'm not understanding how my IP address falls into the private IP range. Thanks for
you help with everything so far.
