I have had numerous problems with my NAT type, I currently own a Xbox series s and I typically play ark survival. The game will only let me join certain servers and whenever I try to join them it just says joining failed could not retrieve address. This always starts to frustrate me and I think that it has something to do with my NAT type. I have tried numerous things like going into advanced settings and changing my port or watching lots of different videos on YouTube but it always seems to go back to moderate whenever I go back to check. I really enjoy playing this game if there is any way that anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. Nat keeps switching to moderate :)

    :)

No worries, hopefully one of those things may work.

Beyond that, if your landlord is willing to help out, you could try reseting the router (unplug it for 5 minutes, then plug back in again)...sometimes they just need a reset. Also making sure the correct ports are forwarded in the router's settings

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

To be honest with you, 80% of the ways to troubleshoot NAT type issues involves having access to the router. First see this comprehensive troubleshooting guide on NAT type errors https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-ne...

    What you can do on your console are;

Go to Settings > Power & startup > Under Power Options > highlight the Power mode, then press the "A" button on the controller to toggle between instant-on and energy-saving mode.

    Change DNS:

    - Go to Settings

    - Network

    - Advanced settings

    - DNS settings

    - Manual.

(If Settings doesn't appear on the home screen, select My Games & Apps, then Settings.)

Then enter the Primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and the Secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220"

You can also try a power cycle to clear the system cache

    - Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.

    - Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 2 minutes.

    - Plug the console power cable back in. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on and check if it's all good.

If that doesn't help, I'll suggest you try doing a factory reset keeping games and apps on your console. This will refresh the console and remove all potential bugs without deleting any game data.

    - Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

    - Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

    - Select Reset console.

    - Choose Keep Games and Apps

Once that is done, you'll need to sign into the console using your Microsoft account credentials. If the issue is with your console, that should fix it.

Thank you so much for the the quick reply. Yea it's unfortunate I can't hardwire right in or have access to the router, my landlord would definitely help me out in that regard if there's something he could do on his end though . I've just tried clearing the Mac and waiting for xbox to reload if that doesn't work will try the other option but fingers crossed. Can update on what works. Thanks again

Hello, first it's a pleasure to be able to help you today.

My name is welcome to the community.

Hello Jackson, the console only detects the NAT that your network provides for your console and equipment, any change to change this has to be made on the I internet equipment.

You will have to call your internet operator, ask them to set a fixed IP pro console, and ask them to open the ports that is described down there, disable and activate the UPnP function and disable the modem firewall, if you have modem and router the process has to be done on both devices.

Ask them to place the console IP in the DMZ zone.

Not having access to the router isn't ideal...it sounds, to me, like it's an issue with the connection between the router and outside rather than your console and the router..however, the best way to check is to connect via a cable which you can't do.

You could try changing the alternate MAC address on the console:

"Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

    Select Settings.

    Select Network.

    Select Network Settings

    Select Advanced Settings

    Select Alternate MAC Address

    Select Clear"

You could also try manually configuring the DNS settings under network to something else...this page covers how to do that (just scroll down to the Xbox One part):

    https://developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1.1/setup-1.1.1.1/gaming-consoles

The 1.1.1.1 will configure you to use Cloudflare's DNS servers (your system will automatically be configured for whatever the ISP uses)
