NAT Issues

So sometimes when I'm on the Xbox one it will say my NAT is strict. This make my DL speed crawl and I have all kinds of problems getting online with a a game. It seems the only way to get it back to NAT Open is to unplug my Comcast router and then plug
it all back in and sign in again. How do I get this to stay Open all the time? Is there a good walkthrough? I know very little about this stuff, but it is so frustrating. Unfortunately it isn't close enough to the router/modem to plug it in directly or
I'd just do this and screw the wireless hassle. I was updating the GTA V and my DL was around 250kb/sec, I unplugged everything and reset it and it showed OPEN and my speeds jumped to 3.1/MB second. I figure the closed NAT was slowing it down. Thanks community!

Weird issue with mic

Sounds like NAT or network issues. Sometimes when two people have a certain network config you can play and chat with other people just fine, but not someone else with your same issue.

My wife and I used to have a similar issue with chat in OG Destiny. Check your NAT and make sure it is open not moderate or strict.

 

Can't seem to edit the post. So to add on, my thinking is correct that if I was plugged in to the Modem, I wouldn't have NAT problems at all, right?

 

Do you use the 'Always On' feature? I did but noticed my NAT was going from Open behind a CONE NAT to Strict. It may be nothing at all to do with yours but it helped with mine.

And I for one prefer going 'Wired' with my xbox. If you don't have an Ethernet cable long enough buy yourself a Powerline Adapter. Turns your whole house into one massive Ethernet cable. They are awesome.

Depends on a lot, but mostly your router settings. Simplest fix is if your router has Universal Plug and Play when your console starts it will tell your router which ports it needs. Some people have posted this doesn't always work if you have your console
set to instant on so you need to use the restart option under power, or do a hard reset on the console which is like hold the power button for ten seconds.

You can also take the time to set up port forwarding, but unless you set your Xbox One and other devices to specific IP addresses any time your router reboots or another device connects it might switch your One to a new IP. Depends on the router how simple
this is to setup.

Last options are you can put the Xbox Ones IP address into the DMZ on the router or plug it straight into the modem and forgo the router completely. These are the most straight forward but not the best solutions if you have other devices on your network.
