NAT Issues Using Gateway and Router

What Country/State/Province do you live in? NC, USA

    Modem brand & model number:
    **** DG860A

    Router brand & model number:
    Linksys N900

    Wired or wireless:

    Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/no/Unknown

Do you have a NAT error? Your network is behind a port-preserving port symmetric NAT

Any Error Codes you encounter: 0x1040040002000064

Who is your ISP?(Internet Service Provider): Time Warner Cable

Problem 1: Double NAT issue, NAT strict most of time, randomly switches to Open (Cone NAT) but moderate on Ghosts.

Problem 2: Cannot use bridged mode on gateway.

Have tried --> Forwarding ports with xbox's IP on router, then forwarding ports with router's IP on gateway. and see above.

Notes: When I turned off NAT filtering on my router the xbox cannot obtain an IP from it. I feel like either the router or gateway isn't forwarding the ports correctly or something. I've run out of options for things to try which is why I'm here. If there's
any more info i need to post please let me know.

    :)

  2. How do you fix error code 0x89234013?

This is the support article for double NAT. Basically seems like it's an issue with having your gateway and your router doing the same tasks.

Double NAT Detected in Xbox One Network Settings

The more simple your network the less things there are to go wrong. If you have a router and a gateway and can get yourself to just the gateway you'll be better off.

Can my router limit my speeds?

And where are you going will all this IceStorm III...???

All I originally stated, was to turn NAT off on the Modem/Gateway, if you are using a seperately attached Router using NAT... You shouldn't use NAT on the Gateway & a seperate Router, as it will cause speed issues & confusion with NAT on two devices etc..

NAT Issues Using Gateway and Router

There is some indication that a TW tech can put the Arris in bridge mode or that you can do it yourself by logging in immediately after resetting it to defaults:

    www.dslreports.com/.../r27274883-TWC-Does-anyone-else-have-an-Arris-DG860a-modem-

Alternatively, see if TW will provide a modem only or buy your own (cheaper than leasing in long run and gives you more control). Failing that, assuming you can configure port forwarding, DMZ, etc. on the Arris, you have a couple options. First, with the
Arris connected to the WAN port of the N900, you could try putting the WAN IP of your N900 (this should be a private IP received from the Arris over DHCP) in the DMZ on the Arris (delete any other forwards on the Arris). Do all port forwarding and DHCP as
usual on the N900. Or, second, you should be able to use the N900 as just a switch + wireless access point (bypass NAT routing) by disabling DHCP on the N900 and connecting the Arris to a LAN port on the N900 rather than to the WAN port. All NAT, port forwarding,
and DHCP would then be provided by the Arris.

Personally, I would just get a modem only, such as the Motorola 6141 (if supported by TW).

    Thanks for the help GZA,

I've already had to replace the arris after we got locked out trying bridge mode so I'm going to stay away from that. Currently I have the router's WAN IP in the Gateway's DMZ and all port forwards on the gateway deleted. On my router I have Ports 80, 88,
500, 3074, 3075, 3544, and 4500 forwarded for my xbox's static IP. I have a DHCP reservation set for the xbox one, and I turned off UPnP which for a few minutes gave me the Cone NAT message in the Detailed Network Statistics page. Unfortunately that has now
reverted to the previous "Port preserving port symmetric NAT. Am I missing something?

Just Rebooted both the gateway and my router and now I am getting a strict NAT but the error code only says I'm behind a Port Symmetric NAT. I suppose that's some progress haha

Can you try the second option I posted? Teredo doesn't work well with double NAT and the first workaround I suggested might not be enough to eliminate that problem. The second should work, assuming you can even get open NAT when the Xbox One is directly
connected to the Arris with appropriate ports forwarded on the Arris (incidentally, you should try that also).

  8. NAT Issues Using Gateway and Router

I have the same issue with the same equipment and the same ISP. TW will put your gateway in bridge mode by just calling them. The best work around Ive found until I can get a new router and use the Arris garbage is bridge mode is this... Start your game,
go to multiplayer... If it won't connect press the guide button while game is still running, go to settings, network, test connect then test multiplayer connection... while on that screen, hold down the R&L triggers and bumpers and wait for the NAT mode to
pop up. It should be open. Then just go back into your game and play multiplayer. So far this has been working for me and my NAT is open.

This is all assuming you have UPnP enabled and the firewall disabled.

    Hope this helps.

I tried the second option as well and my DNS wouldn't resolve the Xbox server names. I've wasted too many hours of my life on this and either way I've had enough trouble with the Arris so we're going to get a new modem. Thanks for the suggestions though.

    Update:

GZA I retried your second suggestion of turning off DHCP on my router and after some tweaking of settings my NAT is fully open! Thanks for the suggestion. The only issue is I can't access my router's settings page. The old IP to access it was 192.168.1.1,
which no longer works. When I attempt to hardwire to it, my computer's LAN has no connection. I attempted to use the setup disk that came with the Linksys e900, but it tells me "Router can not be found" Also myrouter.local does not work and when I look up
my IP when connected to the network it's broadcasting, The IP directs me to my gateway's settings page. Any suggestions?

Sounds like both the Arris and E900 by default use a LAN IP of 192.168.1.1. You will need to change the LAN IP of one or the other from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.X (where X makes an unused IP outside the range that the Arris is configured to hand out via
DHCP). To change it on the E900, you will probably need to temporarily unplug the Arris. You may have to set your PC to a static IP of 192.168.1.X to reach the E900 but try without first.

    Hey there C06Y1SAWS0M3,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue. Since this thread is a bit old and your set up is most likely different than what the original poster's set up was like, I would suggest creating a new thread detailing what you're experiencing. This way you can receive
support catered specifically to you from our community. Thanks so much!
