(NAT Issue) I cannot get out of Moderate!

Hello everyone,

So, if I restarted the router/modem, it will solve the issue temporary. And it goes back to
Moderate after 2 days or so.

I have tried that with wireless and wired. And the issue still there.

I have a Huawei HG8245 (I am not sure if this device is a
router or a
modem. But from the manual, it's say ONT. And I am not sure whats ONT)

My setup is look like this below:

ISP Proveder cable (coming from outside/street) >>> Connecting to Huawei HG8245 >>> Connecting to
Xbox One.

My console can connect to Xbox Live, but complains about moderate NAT.

please advise ..

Im hardwired to my nvg589 and cannot get rid of the moderate nat on my xb1 - I have disabled upnp, dmz and portforwarded

Sounds like NAT or network issues. Sometimes when two people have a certain network config you can play and chat with other people just fine, but not someone else with your same issue.

My wife and I used to have a similar issue with chat in OG Destiny. Check your NAT and make sure it is open not moderate or strict.

 

The Huawei HG8245 is a router. Would you be able to also provide us with the modem/gateway that the router is attached to? That would help to better understand your configuration. That makes me wonder if your ISP might be doing some kind of NAT.

 

But I don't have any modem. This router is connected directly to the Xbox.

Please guys ask me anything to help you understand my issue.

I heard that a bridge mode could solve this issue. however, I don't know how to configure that.

But I will do my best and be helpful and patient as possible, until we get solution for this issue.

Sometimes it helps if you just hard restart tour console, after that it would be OPEN NAT. Also noticed that playing with INSTANT mode ON/OFF may help too.

Does the cable coming in from your ISP attach directly to the Huawei HG8245 and if so what type of internet service do you have. Are you in a university or apartment type environment where the service is shared?

If not what is the make and model of the box the cable from the ISP attach to?

I have tried "hard restart" many times. And "INSTANT mode" is ON all the time.

Yes

What type of internet service do you have?

FTTH (Fiber broadban), 20 Mbps. Plus, telephone line.

Are you in a university or apartment type environment where the service is shared?

No, and its not shared. Only my House.

What is the make and model of the box the cable from the ISP attach to?

I really do not know.

Do you have more than one Xbox console connected to Huawei HG8245?

Do you participate in the Xbox Preview Program?

Have your NAT always been diagnosed with a drifting NAT? Where it drifts from a restrictive cone NAT (moderate) to a full cone NAT (open).

Do you see this behaviour from the Multiplayer test, as well as in game?

When you see a behaviour of moderate NAT, by issuing the Multiplayer test on your console, and afterwards, press and hold (simultaneously) LB, RB, LT, RT buttons on your controller, does this make your NATs behaviour change to a less restricted form?

FYI: When you are manually forwarding network ports, then make sure to disable UPnP, as this (on certain UPnP stacks) tend to overwrite any existing static configuration.

If I were to start all over again, I would change your console's Instant-On mode, to Energy saving power mode.

Untick UPnP (to delete its mapping).

Reboot your gateway.

Tick enable UPnP.

Let us know how that goes, and we'll go from there (most likely with DMZ).

 

if you have not port forwarded your modem this may be the problem so to port forward it go to this website, i beleive it is a guide to help you port forward your modem

No. I have xbox 360, but its off almost all the time.

No. I was before in the program. But now I am out.

No. I have not try the Multiplayer test before. But I will do the (LB, RB, LT, RT) next time.

I think I have a problem with my router (Huawei HG8245), and here is why:

Sometime when I turn On the Xbox, I found it disconnect! (see below image)

And when I tried the the test network, it shows me this:

"Can't connect to your DHCP server".

And when I go to advance setting, I found strange IP numbers!! see below:

Where it is should be 192.168.100.2

The only way to get the box connected is by restarting the router. So, when I do that it get connected with normal IP address + NAT type Open.

Then after two days the box turn back to Moderate or dis-connect for the internet like the above issue.

 

So, you say there's no pattern that can be drawn, from the times when you use your Xbox 360, and for those times when your Xbox One receives moderate NAT. No relationship whatsoever?

[/quote]That's an IPv4 link-local address, which is an self-assigned address.

This make me think that you haven't setup a unique private IPv4 address on your console, which is static assigned to whatever medium you're currently using (wired/wireless). But also, a static unique IPv4 address that is assigned from outside of the DHCPs pool
of dynamically learned addresses.

Yes, I am sure about the X1 & X360. No relationship between them. Unless if you want to consider other devices like iPhones, iPads, TVs, laptop.

But, when you mentioned the IPv4 & static IP address, I think that will solve the puzzle.

And YES, I haven't setup a unique private IPv4 address on my console. Because I didn't know how to do it actually.

But I know how to enter a random IP address from Advance Setting.

But from the router side, I am not sure how can I assign a fixed IP address for the Xbox. Please tell me if you know how to do it.
