NAS support

Allow me to elaborate on this, the Xbox 360 I setup my home with windows media center to stream music and movies. Which worked great for a few years, until I got a few GNU/Linux devices which didn't have such a large driver choice and I migrated my NAS to
be pointed at by my Microsoft Windows 2012 server now running the PLEX media server. I have had this setup for years and no issues. My Xbox 306s had no problem even finding the PLEX server or my NAS device which could be found in the Xbox 360 by:

Xbox 360 center "Guide" button on the controller -- > "Media" tab --> select "System Video Player"

This would show me both my media server and my NAS.

The XboxOne just made this so difficult for me. I did not even see a built in media player I actually had to locate and download an app "Media Player"

This fist tells me It cannot locate any USB or DLNA supported devices. The it located both my NAS device, it adds ":1" with three folders that are empty "Music" "Video" and "Photo", so I was confused and then tried to connect to my NAS using explorer, when
I try to connect to the \\NAS:1 sure enough nothing. Then I try a full mapping \\NAS:1\Music. Nothing:



Still unaware of why it picked up this ":1" with different folders I went and remoted into my NAS via web configuration. Looked at my folder shares and permissions sure enough none of this was there. Now for my Plex Media server it creates the same files,
but it looks like it actually touched the files because each of my folders Movies and Music have been added to the folders so I have to enter music folder on xboxone- enter Music on Plex- then enter folders for music, the same is for movies it works but a
big pain.

So getting errors once in awhile for looking for my server, I download the PLEX app which is for PLEX PASS which is a free app to download but requires a monthly fee. No thanks the whole point of PLEX is free use. Will there be better support the NAS in
the future? Why is this so different from the Xbox360 this is the One and it's suppose to be the ONE to do all, well it's not doing it well. Is there any way that I can modify the location under the XboxOne? I tried all I could think of in the settings. I
would like to point my Xbox directly at my NAS so the PLEX server doesn't have to use so much CPU resources, it looks like all that would need to be done is remove the ":1" I can rename folders, I'm guessing using a directory that requires a password would
be out of the question?

DLNA != share support

Don't expect Xbox One to ever support accessing network shares. If one's NAS has a DLNA server, that may see support. If one's NAS is just providing shares, it is unlikely that it will ever work with Xbox One.

I have a question.. What is the make/model of your NAS? (Network Attached Storage in case anyone was wondering). I ask because there are some NAS devices that need DLNA enabled in order for Xbox One to see them in Media Player.. Not all of them auto enable.

I too use Plex, but I am a Plex Pass subscriber so I get the app for free. But I have noticed that recently (past 48 hours) that my NAS now actually works in Media Player.. Maybe there is a patch in the November update that fixes this issue.

It's a Seagagte Black Armor NAS 220 and is running the BlackArmor NAS 220 storage server. The only thing that I have done is set this NAS to Raid 0 since this is not the one I use for backups they are 4TBs each not sure is that matters and the NAS is running
a DLNA compliant digital media server. I just use PLEX because of well ease of setups throughout my house most devices just require an app to run.
