    Hello, I'm wanting to change my gamertag, but the name is already taken by what seems to be an old account, and it has no information on it whatsoever. No games, description, gamerscore. Anything. I've already asked about this account potentially being
    deleted or something, but I was told that Microsoft added a system in 2016 where if someone doesn't sign into their account for 5 years, then their account will be deleted.

    So now I'm wondering, did I hear that correctly? Because that also has me wondering, I'll be able to change my gamertag in 2021 as long as they don't touch anything? That's still a long way from now, but what if they sign into their account? Will that timer
    just reset, and I'll have to wait another five years? This system is really confusing, any explanation would be helpful.

    With the new gamertag update you can have the same gamertag as someone else>>it just automatically add numbers behind it. Also, you can 1 free change even if you have change your gamertag in the past.http://social.xbox.com/changegamertag.

    You can change your GT to any tag you want now. Microsoft has changed the rules and now they work similar to discord, you will have the same tag as them but will have a series of numbers after if in the sub menu to separate you.

    Gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live.Just because a profile has no Gamerscore,games played etc. does not mean it is not being used or is inactive.

    Xbox eliminates the accounts as you effectively say in 5 years if there is no activity in it or the mail is still in use, the problem is that if you want the gamertag of that account you will have to wait for it to be available, even though it is connect
