Nadella is in favor or against Microsoft's shareholders who want the end of Xbox Division?

In the ten years leading up to the most recent bleak outlook by major shareholders, the picture still doesn't look very promising Report: Microsoft's Xbox division has lost nearly $3 billion in 10 years
and this takes the peak 360 numbers into account, if there ever was a time to jettison some weight, it would be now for to wait any longer would devalue the return on this asset...

The Xbox division will never end. If anything, it may be sold off to become its own company, but the Xbox Division will never just 'shut down'. I am not even worried about this one bit.

I would be happy to see the Xbox division sold to Amazon, Im sure they would be focused more on games than MS.

in all fairness, sony investors want the same thing. There is no money in consoles period. They make money on XBL and game licenses and such but not on hardware. AT least MS is still as a whole turning a profit, where sony isn't. I don't want to see ay console
maker die off, but MS has by far the least chance of xbox falling off, compared to sony and nintendo. Sony has laid off 15k people, sold its laptop division, and sold property and still are in the red. MS hasn't sold or laid anyone off and is still turning
profits

@Upinya Slayin Gotta disagree, Nintendo ironically has the least chance of falling off.

MS has investors that don't think the xbox is making enough money and makes tons of money elsewhere so easy enough for them to abandon it for something that does make money.

Sony may have investors saying that, but that would be foolish as it is one of the few things they do have that is doing well and right now they really can't afford to lose stuff that is doing well. But... they may or may not survive.

Nintendo's current console for sure isn't going to survive but they aren't in Sony's position where the company itself is in jeapordy (yet though Nintendo needs to do some serious rethinking of the market or they could find themselves there) and gaming is
all they do so they aren't just going to abandon it for something else entirely (They may add some stuff but I think since gaming is what they are known for they will still hang on to it for now).

So I'd argue Nintendo of the three is the least likely to leave the gaming market. But I'm sure they will be the first to abandon their current console (Even Nintendo pretty much admitted it was dead when they said even a price cut wasn't going to save it).

While on the outside it may look that "Microsoft as a whole isn't struggling", the shareholders are very concerned about the future outlook. The Windows division, one of the "bread & butter" sections, which has helped make Kinect Research & Development
even possible in the past has seen profits steadily decline in recent years, last year's 9.5 Billion return may sound sizeable to us ordinary folk but to investors it's a sharp drop from 2011's 12.3 Billion. A sale of the XBOX brand makes a lot of sense for
it's looked about as good as it's ever gonna look on paper right now, nobody with enough clout and money is going to gamble on a dead franchise. Microsoft has to make some hard changes if they're to reverse some disturbing trends for they simply can't continue
them, even Microsoft can't absorb and sustain the current situation for much longer, and they're nowhere near the powerhouse that they once were...

The Xbox brand is big, and always will be, regardless whether or not MS decide to sell it. If this division is not part of the future vision for MS then it would be better for the customer if it was sold off.

Microsoft as a whole isn't struggling though. But they could axe off the xbox division or let it spin off into a separate company so the parent company looks better. Hell Sony itself is hurting while it's entertainment/gaming section is thriving atm.

IF this generation of the Xbox turns out to be a total flop which some analysts say it's looking that way it could be the last Microsoft made console. I don't think that means we will lose support for our Xbox One at least not at first. You will just see
less exclusives in the years to come and only receive multiplatform titles. Then, like the Zune, the hardware will simply be discontinued and no longer usable. But again I wouldn't assume that to happen over night but more over the next few years.

The xbox division is still several billion dollars in the red. After the failures of zune & surface, I can see investors wishing M$ would concentrate on what made them succesful in the first place.
