My Xbox turns itself on, daily, for months now

So there isn't one time, but it just happens. Often when we are in the room but certainly not limited to it.

My Xbox one is a master chief edition, setup to turn itself completely off when I turn it off. So I believe that leaves literally just the capacitive touch sensor, and any pre-paired controllers.

Recently, as an it guy I like to troubleshoot, I turned off the "automatically shutdown in x hours feature" to see how persistent the issue was. How many cases was I missing.

So it turns out my Xbox was turning itself on, multiple times though the day, for six hours at a time, before taking a brief power nap. Eating power pointlessly, and without my request.

After normal use and shutdown, the Xbox will remain powered off for up to two days, typically one. But never, ever, more than two.

I don't have my kinect attached.

My roommate owns an Xbox one first gen, the "one you need to hold the disk for a half second to get it to load"-gen Xbox. With low power settings (always on, sleeps and has control of the TV with a Kinect).

His stays off without issue, never wakes on its own, and is three feet away in the same room.

So yeah, what's the next test?

...and I don't have my kinect plugged in (its still in the box the xone came in). Last night it turned on by itself, and luckily my fiance turned it off when he went to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I have a dust cover and I don't know how long
it was on for before he turned it off, which worries me. It literally just did it now as I am here on the computer. It's switching on by itself with no kinect plugged in and nothing leaning against it or the controller or anything? Whats happening and how
can I stop it?

Sorry to hear about that!!

What I would firstly reccomend trying is a hard boot of the console. To do this you simply need to have the console on, then hold the power button on the front of the console down for 10seconds until the console switches off. Leave it off for a minute or
two, then switch it back on and it should take you to the green xbox screen before signing you in. This shows it was done correctly. Hope that should fix the issue.

Also, its worth trying to plug your console directly into the power outlet in the wall, as I have heard that surge protectors can cause this issue also.

Another full proof way is to turn the instant on feature off. It could be that the system is downloading updates in the background or something like that which is causing it to switch on automatically. Which you can do through the settings menu

That's an interesting one, we've not seen many reports of that issue happening at all. Since this is an original model Xbox One (although Master Chief Edition), try unplugging the console from the power source and cleaning the power button with a soft try
cloth to remove any fingerprints or debris. If that doesn't help, make sure your console is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector/power strip. The Xbox One console has a built in surge protector, so if it's connected to another one,
it's very possible that there could be a power issue going on. Aside from that, it's also possible the console is downloading updates in the background. Do you have the console set to Instant On mode or Energy Saving mode?
